Punjab Information Commission Releases Literary Brochure to Promote Punjabi on International Mother Language Day 2026

Chief Information Commissioner Inderpal Singh Dhanna and State Information Commissioners highlight cultural significance of mother tongue

Chandigarh: To mark International Mother Language Day 2026, celebrated on February 21, the Punjab Information Commission today released a literary brochure dedicated to the Punjabi language. The brochure was unveiled by Inderpal Singh Dhanna, Chief Information Commissioner, Punjab, alongside State Information Commissioners Harpreet Sandhu, Virinderjit Singh Biling, Dr. Bhupinder Singh Bath, Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal, Pooja Gupta, and D.K. Tiwari, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Punjab.

The brochure, authored by Harpreet Sandhu, focuses on the theme of International Mother Language Day 2026, “Youth voices on multilingual education,” highlighting the importance of preserving and promoting Punjabi within society.

Sandhu Highlights Importance of Punjabi on Mother Language Day

Addressing the event at the Punjab Information Commission headquarters, Sandhu said the pictorial brochure was created to celebrate the richness of Punjabi. He cited Nelson Mandela’s words: “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head; if you talk to him in his mother language, that goes to his heart.” He added that the day serves as a reminder to educate society on adopting mother languages and preserving cultural heritage for future generations.

Appreciating the initiative, D.K. Tiwari described the brochure as a meaningful contribution toward the promotion of Punjabi language and culture.

Other State Information Commissioners, including Harpreet Sandhu, Virinderjit Singh Biling, Dr. Bhupinder Singh Bath, Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal, and Pooja Gupta, also emphasized that mother language is the soul of cultural identity and a link to our roots. They highlighted that promoting and preserving Punjabi not only honors the legacy of past generations but also strengthens the diversity and unity of society.
