Punjab Ramps Up Flood Relief Efforts
Punjab’s rescue and relief operations in flood-hit areas are continuing on a war footing, with the government promising full support to affected communities.
Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Sond, speaking at a press conference, said the administration is working 24×7 under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He assured that every possible measure is being taken to protect lives, restore normalcy, and provide medical support in districts battered by heavy rains and swollen rivers.
Relief Operations in Fazilka and Beyond
Sond highlighted that in Fazilka district, medicines are being distributed to prevent flood-related diseases. The health department has deployed eight medical teams equipped with ambulances and essential drugs.
These teams are stationed at Pattan Post, Kawnawali Post, and Attuwala Bridge, ensuring round-the-clock medical aid. The proactive presence of doctors and paramedics has helped prevent outbreaks of waterborne infections in relief camps.
Additionally, district hospitals have been placed on high alert with comprehensive arrangements for treating both injured and sick individuals. “The Mann government is making every effort to ensure the safety of every life,” Sond stressed.
Government and Administration on High Alert
The Punjab government has mobilized its entire administrative machinery to respond swiftly to the crisis. Local authorities, health officials, and disaster management units are coordinating daily to monitor rising water levels and provide immediate relief to displaced families.
Officials say food supplies, clean drinking water, and temporary shelter are being made available at relief camps. Moreover, the state has sought assistance from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to reinforce rescue efforts in vulnerable pockets.
Sond added that senior officers are personally supervising relief distribution to ensure resources reach every household in need.
Bhagwant Mann’s Leadership in Focus
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has directed ministers and senior bureaucrats to remain on the ground until the situation stabilizes. His government has emphasized rapid coordination between departments to avoid bureaucratic delays.
“This is a time for unity and collective responsibility,” said Sond. “Under the CM’s leadership, we are prioritizing human lives above everything else.”
Mann has also urged citizens to stay vigilant, cooperate with relief teams, and avoid venturing into flooded zones.
Long-Term Measures and Community Support
Beyond immediate relief, the Punjab government is also evaluating long-term measures to mitigate the recurring problem of floods. Authorities are considering strengthening embankments, upgrading drainage systems, and investing in flood-resistant infrastructure.
Community participation has been notable, with local volunteers assisting in distributing food packets and helping with evacuations. Religious and social organizations have also set up langars (community kitchens) to provide cooked meals to displaced families.
Experts warn that post-flood challenges, such as crop loss, infrastructure damage, and disease outbreaks, require sustained government action. The state has promised to launch compensation schemes for farmers and households once damage assessments are complete.

While water levels are expected to recede in the coming days, the administration has decided to keep medical and relief teams deployed until the situation returns to normal.
