Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO Unveils Major 66KV Substation Upgrades to Strengthen State’s Power Infrastructure
Chandigarh, April 15, 2025: In a significant development aimed at bolstering Punjab’s power infrastructure, Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO announced the completion of extensive upgrades to the 66KV substation transmission network by the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) during the fourth quarter of FY 2024-25. This initiative is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to provide reliable and uninterrupted power supply to its residents and industries.
Comprehensive Upgrades Across Punjab
The recent upgrades encompass the commissioning of five new 66KV grid substations and the augmentation of 101 power transformers, collectively enhancing the state’s power transmission capacity. Approximately 200 circuit kilometers of 66KV transmission lines have been either erected or upgraded, with a combined investment of Rs. 250 crore. These enhancements are expected to improve load management and power reliability across various districts, including Ludhiana, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Barnala, and Sangrur.
Focus on Ludhiana: A Vital Industrial Hub
Ludhiana, recognized as one of Punjab’s vital industrial hubs, has received a significant boost through the augmentation of power transformers at several key substations, including Rajguru Nagar, Alamgir, Dugri, Kanganwal, and Chandigarh Road. These upgrades, totaling over Rs. 14 crore in investment, are expected to significantly enhance electricity supply in urban estates, industrial zones, and high-demand residential sectors such as BRS Nagar, Pakhowal Road, and Ferozepur Road. The strengthened infrastructure will support Ludhiana’s economic growth and ensure an uninterrupted power supply during peak seasons.

Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO emphasized that these proactive developments not only improve day-to-day power supply but also create a robust system capable of handling future demand surges.
