Punjab Police Recover 116 Weapons, Arrest 4,233 in Two Weeks of ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’

Special DGP Arpit Shukla says strict raids, naka checks and parallel drug drive have led to major recoveries and arrests across Punjab.

Chandigarh : Two weeks after the launch of the Punjab Police  decisive anti-gangster campaign ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’, the state has witnessed major action against organised crime. Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the campaign aims to make Punjab a gangster-free state.

Since its launch on January 20, 2026, Punjab Police has arrested 4,233 individuals, including gangsters and their associates, after conducting 14,382 raids across the state. The operation was formally initiated by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.

Punjab Police teams from all districts, working closely with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), have been carrying out targeted raids at locations identified through intelligence mapping of gangster networks and their supporters.

As part of the campaign, intensive naka checking has been conducted across Punjab under the supervision of senior officers, including Inspectors and DSPs. Vehicles and suspicious persons are being thoroughly checked to prevent criminal movement and activity.

Punjab Police Seize Arms, Make Large-Scale Arrests; Anti-Drug Drive Continues

Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla, while inspecting a naka at Godrej Chowk in Mohali, informed that Punjab Police have recovered 116 weapons, along with 262 live cartridges and 23 magazines, from the arrested individuals.

He said that preventive action has been taken against 2,311 persons, while 4,008 individuals were questioned and released after verification. In the past 14 days, police have also arrested 283 proclaimed offenders. On the 14th day alone, 172 arrests were made following 613 raids, with preventive action initiated against 159 persons and nine proclaimed offenders taken into custody.

Punjab Police has appealed to the public to support the campaign by anonymously sharing information related to wanted criminals and gangsters through the Anti-Gangster Helpline number 93946-93946.

Meanwhile, the police also continued their parallel anti-drug drive ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ for the 338th consecutive day. On Monday, 81 drug smugglers were arrested, and recoveries included 1.3 kg of heroin, 1,053 intoxicant tablets and capsules, and ₹1.23 lakh in drug money. With this, the total number of drug smugglers arrested under the drive has reached 47,498 in 338 days.

As part of the de-addiction initiative, 11 individuals were motivated to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.
