Punjab Police Foil Terror Plot: Grenade Attack Suspects Apprehended in Gurdaspur

Punjab Police arrest four suspects in Gurdaspur grenade attack linked to Pakistan ISI, recover hand grenade, pistols, and prevent second attack.

As part of the ongoing effort to make Punjab a safe and secure state per Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s orders, Punjab Police (Gurdaspur), working in tandem with Counter Intelligence (CI) Wing Punjab, has made significant progress against Pakistan’s ISI-backed terror network by apprehending four suspects in connection with the Gurdaspur Grenade attack case. They have also retrieved two pistols and a P-86 hand grenade from their possession.

The individuals detained include Pradeep Kumar, a Hoshiarpur resident; Gurdit, a Gurdaspur resident; and Naveen Chaudhary and Kush, both of whom reside in Hoshiarpur’s Talwara. Among the recovered handguns are a Zigana and a.32 bore, as well as live ammunition.

“Preliminary investigations have shown that the grenade attack on the Gurdaspur Police Station was masterminded by Pakistan-based ISI-sponsored gangster Shahzad Bhatti and his associate Zeeshan Akhtar with assistance from their US-based handler Amandeep Singh alias Aman Pannu from Gurdaspur and went to USA via Donkey route,” said Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Border Range Sandeep Goel during a press conference.

According to him, the investigation has also shown that Aman Pannu recruited foot soldiers to carry out terror acts in the border state under the orders of Zeeshan Akhtar and Shahzad Bhatti. It is important to note that on November 25, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m., this module carried out a grenade strike against Gurdaspur City Police.

The DIG shared the specifics of the operation, stating that police teams had apprehended Pradeep and Gurdit, two suspects in an intelligence-led operation, for providing financial and logistical support to the accused, Hargun, Vikas, and Mohan, the module that threw the grenade at the police station. Notably, the Delhi Police detained two suspects, Vikas and Hargun.He claimed that during the interrogation, Pradeep and Gurdit, the arrested accused, had disclosed the involvement of Naveen Chaudhary and Kush, who had been given two hand grenades by Zeeshan Akhtar. They then gave one of the grenades to the module that had thrown it on the Gurdaspur Police Station at Shahzad Bhatti’s orders.

According to the DIG, preliminary inquiry has also shown that the two were preparing another grenade attack to instill fear and disrupt the state’s peace and harmony. However, the attack has been prevented thanks to the recovery of the last hand grenade.Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurdaspur Aditya provided further information, stating that police teams have located suspects Naveen Chaudhary and Kush close to the village of Jagatpur after following technological and intelligence leads.

Both suspects opened fire on the police party when they were halted at Naka Bandi in the village of Jagatpur, he said, adding that police teams replied in self-defense, injuring Naveen and Kush. He stated that both of the accused were taken right away to a nearby hospital for medical attention and are presently receiving treatment.The site was blocked off after police teams found a hand grenade and two firearms in their hands, according to the SSP. The Bomb Disposal Team was then dispatched to clean up the area and destroy the explosive.

Two distinct cases have been filed in this regard: FIR no. 289, dated 26/11/2025, under sections 109, 324(4), and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosives Substances Act at Police Station City Gurdaspur, and FIR no. 130, dated 1/12/2025, under sections 109 and 111 of the BNS, section 25 of the Arms Act, and sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosives Substances Act at Police Station Purana Shalla.
