Chandigarh, April 3 – The Punjab Police’s ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, which is being executed under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has made significant strides in the fight against the drug menace in the state. On the 34th day of the operation, Punjab Police arrested 52 drug smugglers and seized an impressive 5.6 kg of heroin, 3.2 kg of opium, and ₹1.93 lakh in drug money.
The ongoing anti-drug operation reflects Punjab’s serious commitment to eradicating the pervasive drug trade that has wreaked havoc on communities, particularly among the youth. The latest arrests bring the total number of drug smugglers apprehended in just 34 days to 4817, signaling the aggressive nature of the Punjab Police’s crackdown on illegal drug trafficking.
A Statewide Operation Led by Senior Officers
The recent operation was conducted under the directives of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav. It was carried out simultaneously across all 28 police districts in Punjab, showcasing the unified and coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies throughout the state.
According to Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla, over 200 police teams, consisting of more than 1200 officers, were deployed to conduct raids at 416 locations across the state. These efforts led to the registration of 34 FIRs (First Information Reports) and the seizure of large quantities of narcotic substances. In addition to the drug busts, 449 suspicious individuals were also checked, further emphasizing the scale and intensity of the operation.

The Punjab Police reported that three individuals were successfully convinced to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment as part of their intervention program.
Prevention, meanwhile, focuses on raising awareness about the dangers of drug use and promoting community participation to help prevent further addiction. This multi-faceted approach seeks not only to stop the current flow of drugs but also to prevent future generations from succumbing to addiction.
