Punjab Police’s ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ Campaign Achieves Major Milestone on Day 47
Chandigarh, April 16, 2025 – In a significant development in the ongoing anti-drug initiative, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, Punjab Police arrested 121 drug smugglers on the 47th day of the campaign. The operation, conducted across all 28 police districts, led to the recovery of 4.7 kg of heroin, 2.6 kg of opium, and ₹1.08 lakh in drug money. This brings the total number of arrests to 6,284 since the campaign’s inception.
Special DGP Law and Order, Arpit Shukla, reported that over 250 police teams, comprising more than 1,900 personnel and supervised by 88 gazetted officers, conducted raids at 499 locations statewide. The operation resulted in the registration of 71 FIRs and the checking of 554 suspicious individuals.
The Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has implemented a comprehensive three-pronged strategy—Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP)—to combat the drug menace. As part of the de-addiction efforts, seven individuals were convinced to undergo rehabilitation treatment during this operation.
This latest success underscores the state’s commitment to eradicating drug-related issues and ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
Statewide Crackdown Targets Drug Hotspots
The recent operation was part of a coordinated effort to target known drug hotspots across Punjab. By focusing on areas with high drug activity, the police aim to dismantle trafficking networks and reduce the availability of illicit substances.
The strategic deployment of resources and personnel has proven effective in disrupting drug supply chains and apprehending key figures involved in the trade.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has consistently emphasized the government’s dedication to making Punjab a drug-free state. The establishment of a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee, led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, further demonstrates the administration’s proactive approach in monitoring and supporting anti-drug initiatives.
