KOHIMA : Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio officially launched Nagaland’s Unified Rooftop Solar Portal, a significant step towards promoting sustainable energy practices among residents. This initiative aligns with the national PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, aiming to provide affordable solar energy solutions to households across the state.

The Unified Rooftop Solar Portal is designed to facilitate the installation of solar photovoltaic systems on residential rooftops, allowing homeowners to generate their own electricity. According to Atoho Jakhalu, the Nodal Officer for Rooftop Solar (RTS), a typical 1 kWp RTS system requires approximately 10 square meters of roof space. The energy produced can be utilized within the household or exported to the grid, with the generated power accounting towards the distribution companies’ Renewable Purchase Obligation compliance.
Streamlined Application Process
To ensure accessibility, the portal offers an online application process. Applicants must have an active electricity connection in their name and provide necessary documentation, such as a valid ID card and the latest electricity bill.
