Punjab Ministers Extend Invitations for 350th Martyrdom Anniversary
Chandigarh : As part of preparations for the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, Punjab Cabinet Ministers visited several states to formally invite their Chief Ministers to the upcoming commemorative events. The initiative, led by the Government of Punjab, aims to ensure wide national participation in honoring the legacy of the Ninth Sikh Guru, revered as Hind Di Chadar for his supreme sacrifice for religious freedom.
Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains, accompanied by Deepak Bali, Advisor to the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to extend the formal invitation. The meeting highlighted the deep spiritual and cultural significance of the upcoming events, which are expected to attract participation from across India and abroad.
Punjab Delegations Visit Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Delhi
In a separate meeting, Cabinet Minister Dr. Balbir Singh and MLA Hardeep Singh Mundian called on Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to invite him to join the commemorative functions. The discussions focused on the historic importance of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s martyrdom and its message of unity, tolerance, and courage in the face of oppression.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Saund met Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to deliver a similar invitation. During the meeting, both leaders emphasized the need to promote Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s teachings of religious harmony, human rights, and self-sacrifice, values that remain deeply relevant in today’s world.
These visits are part of a coordinated outreach program launched by the Punjab Government’s Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, which is overseeing preparations for the grand celebrations to be held in Sri Anandpur Sahib, the sacred city closely associated with the Guru’s life.
Punjab’s Nationwide Effort to Commemorate ‘Hind Di Chadar’
The Government of Punjab has announced an extensive schedule of cultural, spiritual, and educational events across the state in the run-up to the 350th Shahidi Purab. These events will showcase Sikh heritage through religious congregations, processions, exhibitions, and seminars on Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s teachings.
The anniversary marks the ultimate sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, who gave his life in 1675 to uphold the right to religious freedom, protecting the Hindu community from forced conversions during the Mughal era. His martyrdom continues to symbolize the Sikh principles of courage, compassion, and selflessness.
Punjab officials have stated that invitations will also be extended to several other state governments, central leaders, and international dignitaries. The goal is to make the commemoration a pan-Indian and global event, reflecting Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s universal message of peace and equality.
Grand Celebrations Planned in Anandpur Sahib
According to official sources, the main celebrations will be held at Sri Anandpur Sahib, where large-scale arrangements are being made to welcome devotees and dignitaries from across the country. The Public Works Department (PWD) and the Tourism Department are working in coordination to upgrade roads, lighting, and infrastructure to ensure a smooth experience for visitors.
Earlier this week, Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO had set a deadline of November 15 for the completion of all road development and maintenance projects in the region ahead of the anniversary events. An estimated ₹24.51 crore has been allocated for road and infrastructure upgrades, reflecting the state’s commitment to host the commemoration on a grand scale.
The Punjab Government is also planning digital exhibitions, live broadcasts, and cultural performances, allowing global audiences to participate virtually in the celebrations.
