Cabinet Minister Leads Flood Relief Efforts in Fazilka
Fazilka/Chandigarh, August 31: Punjab Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur personally visited flood-affected areas near Chand Bhan Drain, village Noor Shah in Fazilka district to distribute relief material and support victims.
Accompanied by MLA Narinderpal Singh Sawna and former Abohar MLA Arun Narang, the Minister interacted with affected families and reassured them of the state government’s full assistance under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Dr. Kaur emphasized that there is no shortage of funds for relief operations, with over ₹70 lakh worth of aid already distributed in Fazilka.
Relief Material and Facilities for Victims
The relief package in Fazilka includes:
- 4,558 ration kits
- 2,017 bags of cattle feed
- Sanitary pads for women
- Mosquito nets
Old Age Homes have been opened for elderly flood victims, while relief camps provide essential facilities for displaced families. Special arrangements are being made to shift differently-abled persons to safe locations.
Dr. Kaur highlighted that once floodwaters recede, a girdawari (crop loss assessment) will be conducted to ensure full compensation for farmers’ losses.
On-Ground Review and Community Support
Earlier, Dr. Kaur reviewed the flood relief operations with Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu and other officials at the District Administrative Complex. She also met with volunteers, praising their efforts in supporting flood victims.
During her visit to village Noor Shah, Dr. Kaur and MLA Sawna shared a community meal (langar) with residents at the flood embankment site, providing morale-boosting interaction amid the crisis.
The Cabinet Minister reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment to timely and effective relief, assuring that both immediate needs and long-term recovery measures are being implemented efficiently.
