Punjab Govt launches statewide events to mark Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s 350th martyrdom, spreading His message of sacrifice, faith, and unity.
The Punjab Government is holding statewide events to honor the memory of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji on the 350th anniversary of the Ninth Guru Sahib’s martyrdom. The goal is to spread His message of sacrifice, righteousness, and freedom of faith for all people.
On Monday evening, Punjab Bhawan hosted a news conference with Punjab Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains and Mr. Deepak Bali, an advisor to the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department.
S. Bains and Mr. Bali remarked that Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji gave his life not for one religion, but for the rights and dignity of all people. The Punjab administration is dedicated to making sure that the light of this great sacrifice reaches every part of Punjab and echoes across the country, inspiring future generations.

S. Harjot Singh Bains declared that the Martyrdom Anniversary programs would start on November 4 across Punjab. He talked about the many different ways people would remember the day. The events are meant to get people of all ages involved, but they are especially focused on young people and students. He also said that starting on November 10, all schools in Punjab, from infancy to Class XII, will have to teach a 15-day instructional program. A 10- to 12-minute pre-recorded recital on Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s life, death, and the founding of the Khalsa Panth will be played before the morning assembly. The goal of this program is to teach kids about this important time in history. All universities, colleges, ITIs, and polytechnics, both public and private, have also been told to hold seminars and events to mark the 350th anniversary of the martyrdom. The Minister was happy to see that these institutions were so excited.
He further said that all districts will have a spectacular 45-minute Light and Sound display about Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s life and sacrifice. The show will commence on November 4 in Patiala, Jalandhar, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Pathankot, and then move on to other districts.
The Education Minister talked about the four Nagar Kirtans that will start in different regions of the country. One will start in Srinagar (Jammu & Kashmir) on November 19 from Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi. The Nagar Kirtan will be attended by the Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Singh Mann, the National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Umar Abdullah, and all of Punjab’s cabinet ministers and MLAs. The other three will come from Faridkot, Bathinda, and Gurdaspur. On the evening of November 22, the four Nagar Kirtans will meet in Sri Anandpur Sahib. During these processions, all Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, and bureaucrats will be “Sewadars.”
From November 23 to 25, the last events of the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary will take place at the Holy City of Sri Anandpur Sahib. This city was founded by Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. He talked about how important the event is and said that it will start on November 23 with the Akhand Path Sahib at 10 a.m. Then, at 5 p.m., there will be a Sarb Dharam Sammelan, an exhibition at Virasat-e-Khalsa, and a Kirtan Darbar at 6 p.m. that will be the first time a drone show will show Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib’s life and death. The day will end with “Shahaadat di Lo,” which will light up the holy city with torches (Mashals). On November 24, Nagar Kirtan “Sis Bhet” will start at Sri Kiratpur Sahib and end at Sri Anandpur Sahib. For the first time in history, the Punjab Vidhan Sabha will host a special session at Bhai Jaita Ji Memorial at Sri Anandpur Sahib to honor the momentous event. The session, which would run from midday to 4 p.m., would be a tribute to the Ninth Guru Sahib, who is highly respected. After the Bhog of Akhand Path Sahib on November 25, famous Kirtani Jathas will sing hymns of the 9th Guru Sahib.
He also said that spiritual leaders from different faiths would meet at a big interfaith gathering called “Sarb Dharam Sammelan.” Invitations are going out to important religious leaders, such as the Jathedars of the five Takhts, the SGPC President, the Head Granthi of Sri Darbar Sahib, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and Sh. Lokesh Muni Ji. The goal is to spread Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s message of unity and peace.
He said that for three days (November 23 to 25), the skies over Virsat-e-Khalsa in Sri Anandpur Sahib will be lit up by a stunning drone show with 500 drones that will show the life and death of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. This amazing show, which will be the first of its kind in North India, is sure to be a stunning tribute to the Ninth Guru Sahib.
S. Harjot Singh Bains talked about the many plans that had been made for the projected 1 crore devotees (Sangat) from all over the world. From November 19 to 30, the Punjab Government is building three big “Tent Cities” that can hold more than 11,000 people per day. There will also be more than 106 acres of dedicated parking lots built along all the roads leading to Sri Anandpur Sahib.
The Education Minister remarked that the Punjab Government is ready to make it easy for the pilgrims to get around. There will be 500 e-rickshaws and 100 mini-buses in the Holy City, and they will all give free rides. Also, from November 23 to 25, there will be complimentary bus service from every tehsil in Punjab to Sri Anandpur Sahib. This would make the trip easier for the Sangat.
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains warmly invited the Sangat to come together to honor the life and legacy of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, which serve as a beacon of hope for all people.
