Chandigarh – In a major step to further strengthen public health services, the Bhagwant Mann Government has announced the recruitment of 672 Staff Nurses to enhance service delivery across government hospitals and health institutions. The recruitment advertisement has been published in leading newspapers, inviting eligible candidates to apply online through the official portal of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot.
The online application portal will remain open from 13 March 2026 to 02 April 2026, allowing candidates to submit their applications under the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab.
This recruitment drive comes in addition to the earlier sanctioned 406 Staff Nurse posts, out of which 275 appointment orders have already been issued and deployed at Sub Divisional Hospitals and District Hospitals across the state. Earlier this year, CM Bhagwant Mann personally handed over appointment letters to 282 newly recruited nurses, reflecting the government’s commitment to timely recruitment and strengthening public healthcare services.

Strengthening Primary and Secondary Healthcare Services
The recruitment of 672 additional nurses underlines the Punjab healthcare recruitment drive’s focus on improving patient care and reducing the workload in government hospitals. Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh said, “The Mann Government is committed to strengthening both healthcare infrastructure and manpower. Alongside doctors, specialists, and paramedical staff, the recruitment of additional Staff Nurses will reinforce primary and secondary healthcare services and ensure better quality treatment for the people of Punjab.”
With more than 1,500 doctors appointed in recent years—including 600 specialists and 948 general doctors—these initiatives account for nearly 35 percent of Punjab’s total medical workforce, significantly enhancing healthcare delivery across the state.
Comprehensive Healthcare Reforms in Punjab
The Punjab healthcare recruitment initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen secondary healthcare facilities, expand the network of Aam Aadmi Clinics, and ensure access to quality primary care close to communities. Additionally, government hospitals have upgraded medical equipment and procured free medicines worth over ₹300 crore, improving treatment outcomes.

Families across Punjab also benefit from financial protection through the Mukhya Mantri Sehat Yojana, which provides health coverage up to ₹10 lakh per family per year, ensuring access to quality healthcare without financial burden.
The recruitment of 672 Staff Nurses is expected to:
- Strengthen patient care at primary and secondary healthcare facilities
- Support rising OPD and IPD loads in government hospitals
- Improve maternal and child health services
- Enhance the implementation of national and state health programmes
- Reduce referral pressure on tertiary care hospitals
This step demonstrates the Punjab healthcare recruitment drive’s commitment to building a robust, patient-centered, and accessible healthcare system. By expanding the nursing cadre and strengthening specialist services, the state government is advancing comprehensive healthcare reforms for the people of Punjab.
