Punjab Govt Mobilizes Relief for Flood Victims
Chandigarh, September 1: The Punjab Government has pledged to “move heaven and earth” to protect lives and property in flood-ravaged areas of the state.
With rivers overflowing and villages inundated, the administration has stepped up relief and rescue operations. Cabinet Ministers, MPs, and MLAs are working round the clock to ensure supplies reach affected families. Officials stressed that safeguarding citizens and their livestock remains the top priority.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema flagged off five trucks of relief material from Mohali on Sunday for the flood-affected families of Ajnala subdivision. The trucks carried 1,000 ration kits, 600 water packets, 400 mosquito nets, 400 mattresses, and 200 folding beds.
Expressing gratitude, Cheema thanked Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers and residents for their overwhelming contributions. He also urged the Central Government to extend greater support, noting Punjab’s long history of sacrifices for the nation.
Ministers on Ground Zero in Flood-Hit Districts
Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian toured villages in Fazilka’s Sabuana and Badiwala areas to oversee rescue work. Meanwhile, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains personally monitored operations in flood-affected parts of Sri Anandpur Sahib.
Bains launched a 24-hour helpline (+91 87279-62441) to provide immediate assistance to residents. “Our government stands shoulder to shoulder with people in this crisis,” he said.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak visited Pathankot’s Bhoa constituency, distributing relief material and fodder for animals. He also gave financial aid to four families in Tash village and assured affected residents of ongoing state support.
Jail and Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar surveyed flood-hit areas in Khadoor Sahib, Fatehabad, and Dhunda. He distributed ration, drinking water, and food kits, while also arranging cattle fodder. Bhullar assured farmers that compensation will be given for crop damage after official assessment.
Rescue Operations in Tarn Taran and Kapurthala
Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO helped villagers fill a massive 50-foot deep and 200-meter-wide pit caused by a landslide in Marr village, Tarn Taran. He also reviewed relief measures in Keeri village, reiterating the government’s commitment to provide all necessary assistance.
In Sultanpur Lodhi, Cabinet Ministers Hardeep Singh Mundian and Mohinder Bhagat braved waterlogged Mand region using tractors to access remote villages. They supervised relief distribution and engaged directly with stranded residents.
Lok Sabha MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal visited Dana Mandi on Chogawan Road, Ajnala, where they monitored aid operations. Essential supplies, including medical kits and cattle feed, were handed over to affected families.
Government Stands Firm With Citizens
The Punjab Government emphasized that relief operations are being carried out with urgency and compassion. Ministers reiterated that protecting human lives, livestock, and property is an article of faith for the administration.
Authorities highlighted that due compensation for financial losses and agricultural damage will be provided once assessments (girdawari) are completed.
With continuous rain worsening the situation, the state government has assured citizens that no effort will be spared in reaching even the most remote areas.
