New Water Supply Schemes Inaugurated in Gurdaspur Villages
Chandigarh/Gurdaspur : Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian on Monday inaugurated new water supply schemes worth Rs 1.11 crore in Naharpur and Narowali villages of Dera Baba Nanak Assembly constituency.
The projects, designed to ensure access to clean drinking water for rural families, were launched in the presence of Dera Baba Nanak MLA Gurdeep Singh Randhawa and AAP District President Joban Randhawa. The minister also planted saplings at both sites as part of the state’s green initiative.
Naharpur Gets Modern Water Infrastructure
Mundian announced that Rs 62.36 lakh had been spent in Naharpur to provide potable water facilities to 153 households. The project includes:
- A deep bore well
- A 25,000-liter storage tank
- Pipeline system with solar panels
- Chlorinator installation
- New water connections
Additionally, 48 household toilets were built under the Swachh Bharat Mission at a cost of Rs 7.20 lakh, further improving sanitation standards in the village.
Narowali Benefits from Rs 48.68 Lakh Project
In Narowali village, a water supply scheme costing Rs 48.68 lakh has been completed. With this, 58 households will now receive clean drinking water. Under the same sanitation drive, 27 toilets have been constructed at an expenditure of Rs 4.05 lakh.
Speaking at the event, Mundian emphasized that the Mann government is fully committed to public welfare. “The government is ensuring 100% potable water coverage across Punjab. Moreover, initiatives like 300 units of free electricity per month are already benefiting more than 90% of consumers with zero bills,” he said.
Mann Govt’s Development Initiatives Highlighted
The minister further noted that in just three and a half years, the state government has provided over 55,000 government jobs. He highlighted major reforms under the “Sikhya Kranti” (Education Revolution) and “Sehat Kranti” (Health Revolution) initiatives.
Mundian also announced that starting October 2025, the government will roll out the Mukh Mantri Sehat Bima Yojana, which will provide health insurance of up to Rs 10 lakh per family.
MLA Randhawa Thanks Govt for Timely Projects
Local MLA Gurdeep Singh Randhawa expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Minister Mundian for executing the projects swiftly.
He highlighted that since the AAP government took charge, 13 water supply schemes worth Rs 6.82 crore have been implemented in the constituency. Additionally, 54 Community Sanitary Complexes worth Rs 1.62 crore have been built.
Randhawa also noted that out of 1,480 toilets sanctioned under the Swachh Bharat Mission, 898 have been completed, while work on the remaining 582 units is in progress.
Officials and Local Leaders Attend Ceremony
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several senior officials and local representatives, including SDM Jyotsna Singh, Chief Engineer Rajesh Dubey, SE Narinder Singh, XEN Vijay Kumar, XEN Dhaliwal, SDO Kanwarjeet Singh Rattra, SDO Rahul, Tehsildar Rajinder Singh, Chairman Balwinder Singh Haruwal, and sarpanches of the concerned villages.
With these new projects, the state government aims to reinforce its promise of delivering clean water, sanitation, and health coverage to every household in Punjab.
