Punjab holds a mock Vidhan Sabha at Sri Anandpur Sahib, engaging school students as young legislators to mark Constitution Day and promote political awareness.
The Punjab administration, lead by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, organized a mock Vidhan Sabha session (Punjab )for children from government schools throughout the state on Wednesday at Sri Anandpur Sahib as a novel way to commemorate Constitution Day and inspire young minds.
With Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan’s consent, Secretary Punjab Vidhan Sabha Ramlok Khatana opened the mock session, which was held at a Punjab Vidhan Sabha building set up at Sri Anandpur Sahib to hold a Special Vidhan Sabha Session to mark the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib ji.
Punjab Deputy Vidhan Sabha Speaker The Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha, dignitaries, and other attendees were welcomed by Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, who also informed them of the importance of Constitution Day. Speaking to the crowd, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh said that the Indian Constitution not only gives us the right to a better life, but also educates us about our responsibilities. He said he hoped the pupils would become interested in politics after today’s lesson.

Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhawan called the day “historic” and said that they are teaching the next generation about how government operates. He emphasized how politics affects every part of our life, establishes the worth of everything, and has a significant impact on how we live.
The students who acted as the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, and MLAs were warmly welcomed by the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and other dignitaries. Students are the future leaders, according to Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhawan, and the Punjab government’s unique initiative demonstrates its dedication to ensuring that Punjab’s youth will lead the way in the future.
In addition to congratulating the parents, teachers, and students, the Speaker urged more people to get involved in politics. He gave the pupils the assignment to produce an article about “Vote Theft.” He said that the children who placed first, second, and third would receive cash rewards of Rs 51,000, Rs 21,000, and Rs 11,000, respectively. Up until November 29, he urged students from all Punjabi schools to attend this unique gathering held at Sri Anandpur Sahib. The speaker also paid tribute to the instructors and schoolchildren in attendance.
Students did a fantastic job portraying different legislators throughout the fake session. The Chief Minister was represented by student Harkamaldeep Singh from the School of Eminence in Ghanauri Kalan; the Leader of the Opposition was represented by Harpreet Singh from Government Adarsh Senior Secondary School in Kot Dhandhal; the Speaker was represented by Jagmandar Singh from HSN School of Eminence in Jaito; and the Deputy Speaker was represented by Dishant Kumar from Government Senior Secondary School in Rurki Khas.
Ten questions were posed during this unique mock session’s Question Hour. As the Minister of Water Resources, the Minister of Public Works, the Minister of Forests, the Chief Minister, the Minister of Social Security, Women & Child Development, the Minister of Transportation, the Minister of Education, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Local Government, and the Minister of Finance, the schoolchildren skillfully provided the answers.
‘The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Punjab Amendment) Bill 2025’ and ‘The Punjab Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill 2024’ were also introduced by the student MLAs.
Additionally, student Jaspreet Singh, who was playing the role of MLA Vijay Singla, presented a Call Attention Notice about the Mansa city sewerage system; student Husanpreet Singh, who was playing the role of MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa, brought up a concern about the preservation of land and water resources; and student Gurbhej Singh, who was playing the role of MLA Rana Inder Partap Singh, brought up a concern about Punjab Agriculture University’s development of a new variety of maize seeds. The house overwhelmingly approved each of these announcements.
