Punjab Government Honors National Heroes by Renaming 15 Schools Across the State

Students to learn daily about the lives of freedom fighters and martyrs through renamed schools and displayed stories.

Punjab Government renames 15 government schools after freedom fighters and martyrs to instill patriotism, courage, and values of selfless service among students.

In a major move to strengthen value-based education, Punjab Government , Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced that 15 government schools across the state have been renamed in honor of revered freedom fighters and martyrs. The initiative aims to instill the ideals of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism among students.

Minister Bains said that by renaming these schools, the government intends to ensure that the sacrifices and contributions of these national heroes become a constant part of students’ learning experiences. He directed the School Education Department to display the life stories and achievements of these personalities, along with their photographs, in the schools to help cultivate character and inspire students through real examples of selfless service.

Providing details of the renamed institutions, Bains said that Government High School, Sandhu Kalan in Barnala is now Shaheed Sepoy Jagdev Singh Government High School; Government Senior Secondary School, Ghugiana in Faridkot is Shaheed Naik Surjeet Singh Government Senior Secondary School; Government High School, Fatehpur in Mansa is Freedom Fighter Maghar Singh Government High School; and Government Senior Secondary School, Dalel Singh Wala has been renamed after Comrade Dharam Singh Fakkar.

He further added that PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School (Boys), Bhikhi in Mansa is now Shaheed Constable Jaswant Singh PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School; Government Senior Secondary School, Bakshiwala is Freedom Fighter Arjan Singh Government Senior Secondary School; Government Middle School, Lubanianwali in Sri Muktsar Sahib is Freedom Fighter Sarwan Singh Government Middle School; Government High School, Hamirgarh in Sangrur is Freedom Fighter Giani Mukand Singh Government High School; Government Middle School, Duladi in Patiala is Shaheed Sepoy Pyara Singh Government Middle School; and Government High School, Rajpura Town is Freedom Fighter Amir Singh Government High School.

Continuing the list, Bains said Government Primary Smart School, Kaire in Barnala is now Freedom Fighter Gurdial Singh Government Primary Smart School; Government Primary School, Tallewal in Barnala is Freedom Fighter Tara Singh Government Primary School; Government Elementary School, Harrangpura Pindi in Bathinda is Shaheed Sepoy Boota Singh Government Elementary School; Government Primary School, Nangal Farida in Pathankot is Shaheed Sepoy Rifleman Jai Singh Government Primary School; and Government Primary School, Daroli Khurd in Jalandhar is Shaheed Kulwinder Singh Government Primary School.

Bains emphasized that this initiative is designed to permanently embed the stories of bravery and sacrifice into the daily lives of students, transforming school identities into lasting tributes to national heroes. He noted that this is not just a change of name, but a meaningful step to make the legacy of these heroes a living part of the educational environment.

He added that naming schools after these freedom fighters and martyrs will keep their contributions alive, inspiring students every day with values of courage, selfless service, and dedication to the nation, helping shape the future of Punjab and India.
