PEDA Pushes for Clean Energy Investments

Chandigarh: The Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) organized a one-day conference, Investment Bazaar for Energy Efficiency, to unlock new opportunities in the state’s industrial and MSME sectors. The event, held at Kisan Bhawan, brought together industry leaders, bankers, financial institutions, equipment manufacturers, and policymakers.

The initiative aims to accelerate investment in energy efficiency projects, creating sustainable pathways for growth across industries, buildings, transport, and agriculture. By facilitating dialogue between businesses and financial institutions, PEDA hopes to bridge the gap between project implementers and funding agencies.

Opening the session, Ms. Neelima, CEO of PEDA, stressed the importance of adopting energy-efficient technologies. “Energy efficiency is no longer optional. It is central to sustainable economic growth,” she said. She highlighted the investment potential in Punjab’s industries and MSMEs, adding that innovative technologies can boost productivity while reducing energy costs.

Industries and MSMEs at the Core of Energy Transition

According to Ms. Neelima, Punjab’s industries and MSMEs play a crucial role in shaping state-wide energy efficiency programs. She said that with the right investment climate, these sectors could help Punjab achieve its clean energy targets while driving inclusive economic growth.

She also acknowledged the leadership of Aman Arora, Minister of New and Renewable Energy Sources, in steering Punjab’s energy transition. Under his guidance, the state is positioning itself as a frontrunner in clean and renewable energy adoption.

The CEO emphasized that making energy efficiency market-driven would encourage more companies to adopt modern solutions. She also noted that presenting successful project case studies during the event was meant to inspire replication across industries and MSMEs.

Bureau of Energy Efficiency Highlights National Schemes

The conference also featured insights from Mr. Shyam Sunder, Director at the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government of India. He underlined the national perspective on energy savings and the role of states like Punjab in leading the transition.

He drew special attention to the ADEETIE Scheme (Assistance in Deploying Energy Efficient Technologies in Industries & Establishments), which supports industries in adopting modern energy-saving technologies.

Mr. Sunder said, “The ADEETIE scheme provides critical support to industries, helping them implement cost-effective energy solutions while reducing carbon footprints.” His remarks encouraged participants to explore BEE-backed opportunities for financial and technical support.

Financial Institutions and Stakeholders Join Hands

The event saw the participation of senior PEDA officials, industry leaders, and representatives from banks and financial institutions. Among them were SIDBI, Union Bank of India, UCO Bank, ICICI Bank, and HDFC Bank, along with equipment manufacturers.

Their presence reflected growing interest in financing energy efficiency projects. The dialogue aimed to create a stronger link between industries that need funding and banks willing to support clean energy adoption.

Speakers highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in ensuring that energy efficiency becomes a sustainable and profitable business model. Participants also discussed practical steps for reducing energy demand, lowering emissions, and boosting productivity through cost-saving solutions.

Driving Punjab Toward a Sustainable Future

The Investment Bazaar for Energy Efficiency concluded with a shared commitment to advance clean energy initiatives in Punjab. Stakeholders agreed that collaboration between industries, MSMEs, financial institutions, and government bodies is essential to accelerate progress.

The conference demonstrated Punjab’s determination to emerge as a leader in energy transition. By creating investment-friendly frameworks and promoting cutting-edge technologies, the state aims to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability.

With industries, MSMEs, and banks on board, PEDA’s efforts may soon set an example for other states in energy-efficient development. The agency reaffirmed its pledge to continue bridging the gap between opportunity and implementation, ensuring Punjab remains at the forefront of India’s clean energy movement.
