In a major pro-people move, the Punjab electricity tariff 2026–27 has been revised, bringing relief to households, businesses, and industries. Domestic consumers will now pay up to ₹1.5 less per unit, commercial users up to 79 paise less per unit, and industrial units up to 74 paise less per unit.
The new tariff order, issued by the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC), chaired by Viswajeet Khanna, IAS (Retd.), will be effective from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027.
Domestic Relief Under Punjab Electricity Tariff 2026–27: Free 300 Units and Reduced Rates for Households
Domestic households continue to benefit from the government’s flagship free electricity scheme, with 300 units per month remaining completely free for more than 90% of households. For units up to 300, tariffs have been reduced from ₹5.40 to ₹3.85 per unit, while units above 300 are now charged at ₹7.05 per unit instead of ₹7.75. Fixed charges have also been reduced by ₹5 to ₹10 per kW depending on household load.
Minister Sanjeev Arora noted that even high-consumption households will receive relief, making electricity more affordable for all.
Benefits for Commercial and Industrial Consumers
The Punjab electricity tariff 2026–27 has brought significant relief for businesses and industries. Commercial connections up to 500 units will now pay ₹6.10 per unit instead of ₹6.89, and those above 500 units will be charged ₹7.10 instead of ₹7.75. Fixed charges for commercial loads have also been reduced by ₹10 per kW per month for certain categories.
Industrial consumers benefit from lower energy charges and reduced fixed charges. Small industrial units will pay ₹5.70 per unit, medium industries ₹5.83, and large industries ₹5.90 per unit. These reductions are aimed at strengthening MSMEs and enhancing industrial competitiveness in Punjab.
EV Charging and Renewable Energy Incentives
The Punjab electricity tariff 2026–27 also prioritizes clean mobility, reducing EV charging tariffs to ₹5 per unit, among the lowest in India. Green energy tariffs have been reduced to encourage greater adoption by industries. The small power category limit has been increased from 20 kW to 50 kW to promote ease of doing business, and special night tariffs for industrial consumers have been continued.
Financial Turnaround of PSPCL
The tariff reduction has been achieved while maintaining the financial health of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL). The corporation recorded a profit of ₹2,634 crore, secured an A+ rating, and reduced the average electricity cost from ₹7.15 to ₹6.15 per unit—the lowest in the past ten years. Overall, consumers across Punjab will benefit from a total relief of ₹7,851.91 crore.
Government Commitment
Minister Sanjeev Arora emphasized that the Punjab electricity tariff 2026–27 revisions reflect the state government’s commitment to affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity. The measures also aim to support industrial growth, MSMEs, and renewable energy adoption while strengthening the operational efficiency and financial sustainability of PSPCL.
The Punjab electricity tariff 2026–27 provides major relief across domestic, commercial, and industrial categories, reduces EV charging costs, and ensures that Punjab’s power sector remains strong and sustainable.
