Chandigarh, Punjab – The Punjab government has launched an innovative online attendance tracker system across 18,000 government schools in the state, marking a major milestone in ongoing Punjab education reforms. The system, introduced today, will notify parents via SMS if their child is absent. For absences extending beyond three consecutive days, schools will directly contact parents, and prolonged absenteeism beyond 15 days will trigger intervention by district and headquarters officials.

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains stated that the tracker will enhance student safety and monitoring, covering around 3 million students enrolled in government schools. The launch coincides with the introduction of the Samarth Project, the next phase of Punjab education reforms, aimed at improving learning outcomes and ensuring quality education across the state.

Punjab Education Reforms Ensure Timely Textbook Delivery and Improved Learning

Since 2022, the Punjab education reforms have brought significant improvements, including timely delivery of textbooks. Previously, students received books as late as September or October, relying on photocopies. Now, books are delivered by February, with bundled sets distributed to students on April 1, aligning government schools with private school standards.

Additionally, Punjab has increased its education budget to ₹19,279 crore, ranked among the top states in NAS 2024, and recorded a significant number of government school students clearing competitive exams like JEE Main. These milestones underscore the ongoing Punjab education reforms and the state’s commitment to delivering high-quality education and strengthening the education system across Punjab.
