Punjab CM Mann Visits Flood-Hit Ferozepur Villages

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today visited the flood-affected areas of Ferozepur district to personally review the situation and reassure residents of government support.

Traveling by boat, the Chief Minister reached village Gatti Rajo, one of the worst-hit areas. He interacted with villagers, listened to their concerns, and encouraged them to remain strong during this crisis.

Government Promises Compensation and Relief

During his visit, CM Mann announced that the state government will provide appropriate compensation for all kinds of losses suffered due to the floods. He emphasized that no affected family would be left without support.

“Our administration is fully committed to the people. In this hour of crisis, the government stands shoulder-to-shoulder with every citizen,” Mann assured.

He further stated that efforts are underway to evacuate stranded residents and ensure the delivery of food, medical aid, and fodder for animals. Relief teams, including disaster response units and volunteers, are working round the clock in the affected belt.

Call for Greater Central Support

Mann also highlighted the need for stronger support from the Union government. He urged the Centre to increase compensation amounts for natural disasters, noting that current allocations are insufficient to cover the heavy damages suffered by farmers, households, and rural infrastructure.

“Our demand to the Centre is clear: raise the disaster compensation so that families and farmers can rebuild their lives,” he said.

Additionally, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of long-term disaster management planning. He assured villagers that the state would explore alternative methods to prevent such large-scale damage in the future, including better drainage, embankments, and early warning systems.

People Urged to Stay Strong

Addressing the villagers, Mann appealed for resilience. “Stay courageous and maintain your spirits. Stay positive. The government and administration are working with full dedication to bring life back to normal,” he said.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the situation would soon improve, as floodwaters recede and restoration work gains momentum.

Broader Impact of Punjab Floods

The floods have caused widespread damage in several districts, destroying crops, livestock shelters, and homes. Rural communities, especially farmers, are among the hardest hit, with concerns over the upcoming harvest season.

While relief measures are underway, experts point out that recurring floods in Punjab underline the need for structural reforms in water management. Issues such as encroachment on drainage channels, poor maintenance of embankments, and climate change-driven rainfall patterns have worsened the problem.

Mann’s visit, therefore, is being seen as both a reassurance to affected families and a political signal of accountability.
