Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has inaugurated eight modern libraries for rural youth of the state. The initiative, launched with a focus on empowering the youth through education, aims to bridge the rural-urban gap in access to learning resources.
The newly inaugurated libraries, built at a total cost of ₹2.80 crore, are located in various villages. These include Shahina village in Barnala district, along with areas under the Bhadaur and Mahal Kalan assembly constituencies. The libraries are now open to the public.

Modern Facilities and Exam-Focused Resources
Each library is equipped with advanced infrastructure. Facilities include high-speed internet, computer systems, and a wide collection of books for competitive exams. According to the government, these libraries aim to support students preparing for UPSC, SSC, state-level exams, and other career-oriented tests.
Additionally, the collection also features high-quality literature to promote general reading among youth. The spaces are designed to be accessible and inclusive, ensuring that students in rural Punjab get the same digital exposure as their urban counterparts.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasized the vision behind the project. “These libraries are not just buildings. They are tools of transformation. We want our youth to dream big and achieve even bigger,” he said during the inauguration ceremony.
Fostering a Culture of Learning and Aspirations
The initiative is part of a broader education reform model being rolled out under the Aam Aadmi Party-led government. Officials highlight that the effort is aligned with the mission to make quality education accessible to every child, regardless of geographic or economic limitations.
“Through these libraries, we are not just opening doors to books, but to opportunities,” said a senior education department official. “From digital literacy to civil services preparation, these spaces will help rural students aim high.”
Community leaders and parents have welcomed the step. Many believe this development will keep young minds engaged in productive learning and discourage distractions such as substance abuse and unemployment.
Libraries as Catalysts for Youth Empowerment
The libraries are expected to serve as knowledge hubs for thousands of students and aspiring professionals. Teachers and volunteers from nearby areas will also be engaged to support mentoring and academic assistance.
The Chief Minister noted that such infrastructure is essential to elevate the intellectual level of Punjab’s rural population. “Our goal is to see Punjabis hold top positions globally. Education is the most powerful tool to achieve that,” he added.
Apart from exam preparation material, the libraries are also expected to host community programs. These may include skill development workshops, reading drives, and online career guidance sessions in the coming months.
