Chandigarh :  The Bhagwant Mann Government’s Mahila Udyami Samman Program Punjab is witnessing overwhelming participation from women entrepreneurs across the state. Launched on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the initiative highlights the AAP government’s commitment to women’s empowerment and supporting self-reliance through entrepreneurship.

From March 2 to March 6, the first phase of the program was held in all 117 Assembly constituencies. Women from urban and rural areas, working in diverse business sectors and self-employment ventures, were felicitated for their contributions. Each constituency recognised 100 women, honouring their efforts to create their own identity and become financially independent.

Strong Response from Women Entrepreneurs

The program received more than 28,000 nominations via the Punjab State Rural Livelihood Mission (PSRLM) portal, showing the rising interest among women to participate in entrepreneurship. District and state-level ceremonies will follow, celebrating women excelling in small businesses, home-based enterprises, agriculture, and service sectors.

Recognition Process Across Punjab

The Mahila Udyami Samman Program Punjab honours women in multiple stages:

  • Constituency Level: Around 11,700 women entrepreneurs already recognised.
  • District Level: 2,300 women to be honoured across 23 districts.
  • State Level: The top 100 women entrepreneurs will be felicitated by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on March 18, receiving ₹25,000 each for their outstanding achievements.

A Month-Long Celebration of Women Empowerment

Punjab Government celebrates International Women’s Day as a month-long event rather than a single day, aiming to inspire more women to enter entrepreneurship. Initiatives like Mahila Udyami Samman Program Punjab encourage women to take leadership roles in economic development and foster innovation within communities.

The program is widely appreciated as a meaningful step to recognise women’s contributions to Punjab’s economy and motivate thousands of others to achieve self-reliance and success.
