MRSAFPI Cadets Inspired by Daughter of India’s Most Decorated Soldier

At the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (MRSAFPI) in SAS Nagar, cadets were recently inspired by a deeply moving and motivational session led by Ms. Amarjeet Kaur, daughter of the legendary Jemadar Nand Singh, who stands as one of India’s highest-decorated soldiers with the Victoria Cross (VC) and Maha Vir Chakra (MVC).

Jemadar Nand Singh’s extraordinary bravery and selfless dedication have become a beacon for aspiring soldiers across the nation. Born on September 24, 1914, in the village of Bahadurpur in Mansa, he earned the Victoria Cross for his remarkable courage during World War II. Serving in the 1 Sikh Battalion, he led his platoon in a daring attack to capture the strategically vital ‘India Hill’ in Arakan, Burma, successfully neutralizing a fierce Japanese position. His gallantry during this battle earned him the highest military honor bestowed by the British Empire on Indian soldiers.

But Jemadar Nand Singh’s heroism did not end there. In the 1947-48 Kashmir War, he laid down his life while valiantly protecting his men from an ambush, a sacrifice that posthumously earned him the Maha Vir Chakra, India’s second-highest military decoration. His story is one of unparalleled courage and commitment, inspiring generations of soldiers and citizens alike.

During the interactive session, Ms. Amarjeet Kaur shared heartfelt stories and personal anecdotes about her father’s life and the values he upheld — courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the nation. She urged the cadets to embrace these qualities as they prepare for their own journeys in the armed forces. Her words struck a chord with the young aspirants, motivating them to set ambitious goals and cultivate the determination needed to serve the country with honor.

Major General (Retd.) Ajay H Chauhan, Director of MRSAFPI, praised Jemadar Nand Singh’s enduring legacy. “His life is a powerful testament to bravery and sacrifice. The cadets here today are fortunate to hear firsthand from his family and to carry forward his spirit of service and valor,” he said. He added that nurturing such stories helps instill patriotism and a strong sense of duty among the future defenders of the nation.

The session ended on a hopeful note, with cadets expressing renewed enthusiasm and pride in their chosen path. As they embark on their training, the heroic legacy of Jemadar Nand Singh will continue to light their way — reminding them that greatness is achieved not just through skill, but through courage and heart.
