Punjab govt under CM Bhagwant Mann rescues 807 children from begging via Jeevanjyot campaign, ensuring education, rehabilitation, and safety.
The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, is working tirelessly and resolutely to abolish child begging as a major social ill from the state. Social Security, Women, and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur shared this information, stating that the Jeevanjyot campaign has achieved a significant success with the rescue of 31 begging children in district Mohali over the course of the last three days by the regional social security teams.
Dr. Baljit Kaur gave more information, stating that since August 17, 68 begging youngsters have been saved from the Mohali area, making it Punjab’s top district in this regard.
According to the Cabinet Minister, three children have been returned to their parents following the District Child Welfare Committee’s verification of the documents, while the other twenty-eight children have been placed in child care facilities until the verification process is finished, where sufficient arrangements have been made for their safety, food, and shelter.

Dr. Baljit Kaur added that the Mann Government’s child-friendly and sensitive governance strategy has resulted in the rescue of 807 children engaged in begging throughout Punjab thus far and their connection to the rehabilitation process. She explained that the Jeevanjyot campaign is a successful endeavor that aims to transport children from the streets to schools and toward a stable future, rather than being restricted to rescue operations alone. To make sure that no child is pushed back into begging, health examinations, counseling, educational support, and family rehabilitation are prioritized after rescue.
The Cabinet Minister issued a strong warning, stating that any person or gang discovered engaging in child trafficking or begging will be subject to the worst legal penalties.
In order to ensure that every child has access to education and can live a respectable life, Dr. Baljit Kaur made an appeal to the people of Punjab, asking them to fully cooperate with the government in its efforts to end child begging. He also advised that if anyone witnesses a child begging, they should not give alms and should notify the Child Helpline Number 1098 right away.
