Harpal Singh Cheema meets 47 employee unions, pledges timely action, fair review, and inclusion in policy-making for Punjab state workforce welfare

Harpal Singh Cheema, the Punjab Finance Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee established to address employee concerns, met extensively with members of 47 distinct employee unions. The lengthy discussions, which lasted more than five hours, demonstrated the government’s steadfast dedication to resolving the long-standing issues of the state workforce and promoting an open, employee-focused administration.

The representatives of all 47 Unions, including those from departments such as Education, Health, Water Supply, Power, Contract Employees, and Joint Fronts, were given a patient and understanding hearing by the Finance Minister. The regularization of contractual and outsourced workers was the main focus of the unions’ main concerns, and the minister promised a fair review in accordance with the law as it is.

Finance Minister Cheema gave the administrative departments important instructions to guarantee timely action. First and foremost, administrative agencies have been told to actively include union representatives in the creation of any proposed employee welfare policies before they are finalized. Incorporating ground facts and removing future misunderstandings are the goals of this step. According to him, the state administration is making every effort to establish a peaceful, effective workplace that benefits the state and its workers.
