Chandigarh: Punjab Education Minister and Sri Anandpur Sahib MLA Harjot Singh Bains on Tuesday announced the issuance of the final notification for the long-awaited four-laning of the Nangal-Kiratpur Sahib road, clearing the path for construction to begin soon. Terming it a “long-cherished public demand” and a personal commitment, Bains said the project will enhance road safety, connectivity, and economic activity in the region.

Harjot Singh Bains stated that the land acquisition process will be completed within the next two months, after which tendering and on-ground construction will commence immediately.

In a video message, Bains recalled that the project’s groundwork started with a detailed survey in July 2022, highlighting the urgent need for an upgrade, particularly along the Nangal-Ganguwal stretch, which has been accident-prone for years and has claimed multiple lives.

“This road is not just an infrastructure project; it is a lifeline for daily commuters and thousands of pilgrims visiting religious sites such as Mata Bagla Mukhi, Baba Balak Nath, and Mata Chintpurni. Strong survey data and continuous follow-up with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) established the case for four-laning,” Bains said.

Harjot Singh Bains also highlighted the broader economic impact of the project, noting that improved connectivity would act as a catalyst for growth across the region. Referring to Bharatgarh’s development, he said enhanced road networks attract hotels, businesses, and investments, creating employment opportunities for local youth.

“The upgraded road will benefit nearly 100 surrounding villages, facilitating easier market access. Tourism will also see a boost, benefiting small traders, shopkeepers, and local entrepreneurs,” he added.

The Harjot Singh Bains also cited other infrastructure initiatives in the constituency, including a uniquely designed foot overbridge near Sarsa Nangal and development of service roads from Bara Pind to Bharatgarh.

Reaffirming his commitment, Harjot Singh Bains said, “This road represents my vision for the future of our region. With the blessings of Guru Sahib and the people, we will ensure timely completion, ushering in a new era of safety, connectivity, and prosperity.”
