Cross-border narco-terror module exposed
Chandigarh/Amritsar : In a major breakthrough under the state’s Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign, Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Border Range, in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF), has busted a cross-border drug smuggling module linked to foreign-based gangster Harpreet Singh alias Happy Jatt.
The operation led to the arrest of Sajan Singh alias Billa, a hairdresser from Amritsar’s Beharwal village. Police recovered 25 packets of heroin, weighing 25.9 kilograms, and a sophisticated 9mm Glock pistol from his possession.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, confirmed the recovery and said the operation dealt a severe blow to narco-terror networks. He added that investigations reveal the heroin consignments were delivered via drones from Pakistan.
Happy Jatt’s criminal history and extradition efforts
DGP Yadav said preliminary findings confirm that Harpreet Singh alias Happy Jatt, a native of Jandiala Guru in Amritsar, is operating the smuggling module from abroad. He has been in touch with Pakistan-based suppliers who use drones to drop consignments inside Indian territory.
Happy Jatt is a proclaimed offender facing at least 21 criminal cases in Punjab, including drug trafficking and violent crimes. Punjab Police are actively pursuing his extradition to bring him back to face trial.
Yadav said the bust highlights the evolving tactics of cross-border cartels, including the increasing use of drones to bypass border security. He assured that further investigation is underway to dismantle the network’s backward and forward linkages.
How the operation unfolded
Superintendent of Police (SP) ANTF Border Range, Gurpreet Singh, shared details of the operation. Acting on precise intelligence, ANTF and BSF launched a coordinated raid near Beharwal village, intercepting Sajan Singh as he attempted to deliver the heroin consignment.
Investigators revealed that the consignment was dropped by a heavy drone at Daleke village a day before the arrest. Sajan Singh had reportedly been receiving such consignments for the past two months. He maintained contact with Happy Jatt through encrypted social media applications.
Authorities said two more operatives linked to the module have been identified. Police teams are conducting raids to arrest them.
Legal action and ongoing investigation
Police have registered FIR No. 252 dated September 18, 2025, under Sections 21C, 25, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station ANTF, SAS Nagar.
Officials said the probe will extend to financial trails, digital communications, and possible terror links. They stressed that Punjab Police remain committed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs.
The large seizure has once again raised concerns about Pakistan-based syndicates exploiting advanced technologies to smuggle contraband. Authorities believe dismantling such modules is key to breaking the supply chain fueling drug addiction in Punjab.
