Fortis announces major expansion in Punjab
Chandigarh – Fortis Healthcare has announced a major investment of more than ₹900 crore to expand its Mohali campus, in a move aimed at strengthening Punjab’s position as a hub for advanced healthcare and medical tourism. The project will add over 400 beds, creating a world-class centre of excellence, according to Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora.
Speaking at a press conference, Arora said the expanded Fortis Mohali campus will cover more than 13.4 acres and generate over 5,400 direct and indirect employment opportunities for the state’s youth. “This project will not only bring world-class healthcare to Punjab but also create thousands of jobs and attract medical tourism to the state,” he stated.
Strengthening Punjab’s healthcare ecosystem
The investment aligns with the Punjab government’s vision to develop Sehatmand, Rangla Punjab under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. Arora highlighted that Punjab is increasingly becoming a preferred destination for private healthcare investments, reflecting strong confidence in the state’s infrastructure and policies.
With the new expansion, the Punjab cluster of Fortis facilities will surpass 1,000 beds, backed by a cumulative investment of more than ₹2,500 crore. Arora noted that this milestone demonstrates Punjab’s emergence as one of North India’s most strategically important healthcare hubs.
Fortis’ growing footprint in Punjab
Fortis has already invested over ₹1,500 crore in Punjab, building a strong hospital network across the state. The existing Mohali facility provides 375 beds, including 194 ICU beds across 40 specialties. It has established itself as a leader in cardiac sciences, oncology, organ transplants, robotic surgery, and critical care.
In Ludhiana, Fortis operates a 259-bed hospital (since 2013) along with a recently launched 70-bed facility offering super-speciality clinics in breast health, diabetes, and spine care. The Fortis Escorts Hospital in Amritsar has a 173-bed facility on a 4.5-acre campus, serving patients from Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.
Additionally, Fortis owns Shrimann Super Speciality Hospital in Jalandhar, a 300-bed facility, with an additional 2.5 acres acquired for future expansion.
Government welcomes private healthcare investments
The Punjab government is working to strengthen public-private partnerships in healthcare, ensuring universal health coverage and robust medical infrastructure. Arora emphasized that the Fortis expansion reflects the growing trust of private players in Punjab’s healthcare ecosystem.
“This investment demonstrates Punjab’s ability to attract world-class healthcare providers. It will not only expand access to advanced treatment but also generate employment and place Punjab firmly on the global healthcare map,” Arora added.
Senior officials including Kamal Kishor Yadav, IAS (Secretary Industries and Commerce, Punjab), Amit Dhaka (CEO, Invest Punjab), and Manu Kapila (Head of Corporate Affairs, Fortis Healthcare) were also present at the event.
