Ek Din, DC/SSP De Sang: Punjab Govt’s Initiative Gives Toppers a Day in Public Administration

Punjab’s “Ek Din, DC/SSP De Sang” Initiative Gives Toppers a Glimpse into Governance

In a commendable move aimed at fostering future leadership and rewarding academic excellence, the Punjab Government’s innovative initiative, “Ek Din, DC/SSP De Sang”, has emerged as a major success. On May 28, Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) from seven districts of Punjab spent a day with high-performing students, offering them an immersive experience into the real-world workings of governance and law enforcement.

This flagship initiative, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and spearheaded by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, is being hailed as a creative step toward connecting the youth with the state’s administrative framework.

A Day of Learning and Leadership

Speaking about the intent behind the initiative, Education Minister Harjot Bains said,

“This program not only rewards academic brilliance but also ignites the minds of our youth to aim high and understand the immense responsibility leadership entails.”

Each participating DC and SSP tailored a detailed, interactive day plan to give students a close look at the responsibilities and pressures of high-ranking officers. Here’s how the initiative unfolded across districts:

Fazilka: From Classrooms to Control Rooms

In Fazilka, DC Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu welcomed six government school toppers—Muskan, Santosh, Jagriti (Class 10) and Priya, Harmandeep Kaur, Anudeep (Class 12). The students explored key administrative departments and took part in anti-drug awareness campaigns in villages Bhagsar and Kular. They were also honored with books and tablets to encourage further academic growth.

Faridkot: Law and Order Up Close

DC Poonamdeep Kaur hosted district Class 12 toppers—Diljeet Kaur, Navpreet Kaur, and Kuldeep Sharma—for an administrative office tour. Meanwhile, SSP Dr. Pragya Jain mentored Class 10 toppers Akshnoor Kaur, Jashanpreet Kaur, and Gurleen Kaur. The students were exposed to real-time police operations and given insights into how law enforcement functions to maintain order.

Pathankot: Aspirations Meet Administration

DC Aditya Uppal interacted with top scorers Kamini Sharma (98.2%), Heena (97.2%), and Mansi Devi (97.07%), giving them a deep dive into district-level decision-making. The tour included various government departments and served as an educational eye-opener for the aspiring students.

Ludhiana & Khanna: The Power of Police Perspective

In Ludhiana district, SSP Khanna Dr. Jyoti Yadav Bains took top students Amandeep Kaur, Taranveer Singh, and Niharika Gujral through a thorough exploration of the Integrated Command Centre, Traffic Cell, and the Mahila Mitra initiative. SSP Bains shared her personal journey as an IPS officer, motivating the students to dream big and work hard.

Sri Muktsar Sahib: Policing Beyond Uniform

SSP Dr. Akhil Chaudhary hosted toppers Sakshi, Ritika, Ruhani, Gurleen Kaur, Sakina Khatun, and Asnat. The students visited the Police Control Room and various SSP branches, followed by an inspiring session where Dr. Chaudhary emphasized academic success and co-curricular balance.

Fatehgarh Sahib: Grassroots Administration at a Glance

DC Dr. Sona Thind engaged district toppers Parneet Kaur (99%), Shehnaz Khan (98.4%), Meenal (97.2%), and Lovish Kumar (96.8%) in an administrative journey that included visits to the District Administrative Complex and a rural library. Dr. Thind’s motivational talk further encouraged the students to stay focused and dedicated.

Malerkotla: Hockey to IPS – A Story of Dreams

Olympian and current SSP Gagan Ajit Singh hosted Class 10 toppers and shared his extraordinary journey from Indian hockey to the IPS. His narrative left the students inspired to overcome challenges and aim for excellence in whichever path they choose.

Nurturing the Next Generation of Leaders

By turning classrooms into corridors of power, the “Ek Din, DC/SSP De Sang” initiative not only recognizes students’ achievements but also plants the seeds of future governance and civic responsibility.

As Minister Harjot Bains concluded,

“This initiative is a step towards nurturing young leaders who understand the value of governance, empathy, and commitment to public service.”
