Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann asks the Election Commission of India to clarify objections over the Special Intensive Revision to ensure transparency in democracy.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that because various political parties are objecting to the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the constitutional body must clarify the situation.

Interacting with the media , the Chief Minister stated that the ECI’s measures, particularly the SIR, should not be seen as vote theft aimed at muzzling democracy’s voice. He stated that instead of being silent, the ECI should address and clarify the opposition’s concerns. Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the ECI is required to respond to all concerns voiced by various political parties in order to strengthen public trust in democracy.

In response to a question, the Chief Minister stated that as part of a deliberate conspiracy, Punjab is blamed for pollution in the national capital under the guise of stubble burning, but the reality is very different. He stated definitely that over 90 lakh metric tons (LMT) of the crop have yet to arrive in the grain markets, therefore where has the stubble burning occurred in the state. Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that those blaming Punjab for pollution in Delhi ignore the fact that Haryana is located between the state and national capitals, but they do not blame it for the mess.

The Chief Minister bluntly asked the leaders why Delhi’s AQI is so low today when paddy straw burning is prohibited in the state. Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the food growers of Punjab are being defamed while no alternative is being supplied by the central, and that the Prime Minister can ensure a cease-fire at the world level but is unconcerned about this significant issue involving multiple states. He lamented that, despite the fact that Punjab is giving 170 LMT of paddy to the national pool despite the floods, the central never acknowledges this.

The Chief Minister chastised the Union government for its stepmotherly treatment of the state, particularly during this time of crisis. He stated that the state is yet to get the Rs 1600 crore announced by the Prime Minister for flood relief, and that to alleviate the situation, the central government is attempting to adjust monies from other current initiatives in this area as well. Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the Union government should end this mistreatment of the state, which serves as both the country’s food bowl and its sword arm.

On another question, the Chief Minister stated that despite repeated attempts, he has not been able to meet with the Prime Minister because he is supposedly engaged with electioneering in Bihar. Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that he intended to bring flood issues to the Prime Minister’s attention, as well as invite him to festivities commemorating Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s 350th martyrdom day. However, he stated that because the Prime Minister is already in Bihar, they are prepared to travel to the poll-bound state and meet with him there in order to address state issues.
