FAZILKA — In a major push for border area welfare, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated a series of high-impact initiatives in Fazilka on Friday, April 3, 2026. These CM Bhagwant Mann Fazilka development projects, totaling over ₹145 crore, aim to bridge the long-standing infrastructure gap in the state’s frontier regions. During a state-level event, the Chief Minister emphasized that his government ensures border districts lead the race for modernization. Thousands of local residents gathered to witness the unveiling of these schemes, marking a new era for the district.
The “Aam Aadmi” government is prioritizing the all-round development of this historically neglected region. Specifically, the government allocated approximately ₹125.29 crore for the modernization of local roads and markets. These upgrades will significantly improve connectivity for farmers and small business owners. Moreover, the project includes the renovation of key grain markets to ensure smoother procurement seasons. Improved logistics are expected to lower transportation costs for the rural workforce across the entire border belt.
Empowering Farmers and Securing the Irrigation Network
Agriculture remains the backbone of Fazilka, and the latest CM Bhagwant Mann Fazilka development projects reflect this reality. Chief Minister Mann introduced irrigation schemes designed to empower local farmers by providing consistent water access. Additionally, the government has set aside over ₹20 crore specifically for electricity and power infrastructure upgrades. These funds will ensure that tubewells and local industries receive an uninterrupted power supply.
A critical part of this investment focuses on flood protection. Fazilka frequently faces challenges from rising river levels during the monsoon. Consequently, the government is implementing permanent structural arrangements to safeguard villages near the border. These measures include the strengthening of embankments and the creation of strategic drainage channels. By securing the land against natural disasters, the state aims to protect both lives and standing crops effectively.
Transforming Education and Urban Facilities
Beyond infrastructure, the Punjab government is focusing on the “human capital” of the region. The CM Bhagwant Mann Fazilka development projects include structural improvements in the education sector. Several government schools in the district will be upgraded to “Schools of Eminence” standards. This ensures that children in border areas have access to quality laboratories, digital classrooms, and modern sports facilities.

Urban residents will also benefit from the expansion of civic facilities. The Chief Minister announced a dedicated fund for waste management and clean drinking water projects. Furthermore, the expansion of healthcare clinics under the Aam Aadmi Clinic model continues to be a priority. These clinics provide free consultation and medicines to residents at their doorstep.
A New Direction for the Border Belt
Chief Minister Mann reiterated that his administration is working to end the “second-class citizen” treatment previously faced by border residents. By bringing high-quality facilities to the edge of the state, the government is steering Fazilka toward growth. The transition from traditional methods to modernized systems is now visible across the district’s landscape.
The CM also interacted with local youth and promised further investments in skill development centers. He noted that when the border areas prosper, the entire state of Punjab strengthens. As the CM Bhagwant Mann Fazilka development projects move toward completion, Fazilka is set to become a hub for trade. This holistic approach ensures that development is not just a slogan but a tangible reality for every citizen.
