Chandigarh: Punjab is set to take another major step towards sustainable development as the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government accelerates its Punjab Green Energy Drive by solarising iconic heritage and religious sites across the state.

Sharing the update on social media, Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora said that renowned landmarks, including Virasat-e-Khalsa in Sri Anandpur Sahib and Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, will soon be powered by solar energy. The initiative is part of the state’s broader vision to promote clean and renewable energy while reducing dependence on conventional power sources.

18.6 MW Solar Plants Planned on 661 Government Buildings

As part of the ongoing Punjab Green Energy Drive, the government is installing solar power plants with a combined capacity of 18.6 MW on 661 government buildings across Punjab.

The project is expected to generate clean electricity for public institutions, reduce power consumption costs and support the state’s environmental goals. Officials believe the initiative will help government departments save significant amounts on electricity bills while contributing to a greener future.

Review of Renewable Energy Projects Held

Aman Arora said he reviewed the progress of various renewable energy projects being implemented by the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA). During the review, officials were directed to speed up the execution of ongoing projects and ensure their timely completion.

The minister emphasized that the Punjab Green Energy Drive is a key component of the government’s commitment to sustainable growth and energy efficiency.

Three Lakh Solar Street Lights to Be Installed in Six Months

In another major announcement, Aman Arora directed PEDA to install three lakh solar street lights across Punjab within the next six months.

The large-scale deployment of solar-powered street lighting is expected to improve public infrastructure while significantly reducing electricity consumption and carbon emissions. The initiative will also strengthen energy access in urban and rural areas alike.
