Harjot Bains announces ₹16 Cr Pipeline Project to supply clean Sutlej River water to Nangal homes, ending decades of water scarcity and contamination issues.

NANGAL :  The Punjab Education Minister, S. Harjot Singh Bains, has announced a ₹16 Cr Pipeline Project to supply clean drinking water from the Sutlej River to every household in the town. This groundbreaking initiative is expected to be completed within 18 months, addressing the persistent drinking water problems of Nangal residents.

The project, for which tenders have been issued, will involve the establishment of two new water treatment plants and the expansion of the capacity of existing plants of 4MLD. Harjot Bains provided specifics about the ambitious project. The objective of this infrastructure upgrade is to resolve the protracted ordeal that Nangal residents have endured for decades, which has been characterized by severe contamination of groundwater and water scarcity.

According to S. Harjot Singh Bains, “I am thrilled to announce that our endeavors to guarantee clean drinking water to the residents of Nangal are now being realized.” Purified, secure water from the Sutlej River will be accessible to all residences within 18 months. Nangal, the beginning point of the Sutlej river’s voyage through Punjab, has endured water scarcity for an extended period of time, which is ironic.

The Education Minister emphasized that efforts to resolve Nangal’s water crisis, such as the Municipal Council’s efforts to drill numerous borewells, have been ineffectual in ensuring the provision of safe and sustainable water. The public health is under a substantial threat as a result of the severe contamination of the groundwater in the region by industrial pollution. This highlights the necessity of a dependable and secure water supply solution, which the new initiative intends to provide by obtaining water from the Sutlej River.
