Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s Government Inaugurates Smart School in Longowal, Boosts Education Infrastructure
In a major step towards revamping Punjab’s education infrastructure, the Government of Punjab inaugurated the Shaheed Sardar Bhagwan Singh Government Senior Secondary Smart School in Longowal. Developed at a cost of ₹6.10 crore (₹61.012 million) under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the school marks another milestone in the state’s ambitious education reform efforts.
Minister Aman Arora Leads the Inauguration
The inauguration ceremony was led by Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, who oversees the departments of New and Renewable Energy, Housing and Urban Development, and Horticulture. Speaking at the event, Arora emphasized that education is the cornerstone of a progressive society, and the government is determined to ensure that students across Punjab—whether in urban or rural areas—have access to world-class learning environments.
He added that smart schools like this one are not just infrastructure projects but are part of a larger transformation in the way education is delivered in the state. These schools include digital classrooms, smart boards, modern laboratories, and internet-enabled learning tools that aim to engage students with technology-driven, interactive pedagogy.
Part of a Broader Education Reform Vision
The inauguration of this smart school is aligned with Punjab’s larger vision under the Punjab Education Sector Reform Programme (PESRP). The PESRP is focused on improving educational access, teaching quality, and governance in schools, especially in underserved and rural areas.
Key initiatives within PESRP include:
-
TALEEM Programme: Targeted at strengthening learning outcomes through modern infrastructure and teaching aids.
-
ASPIRE Project: Focused on uplifting schools in economically weaker districts through infrastructure grants, teacher training, and digital tools.
By introducing smart schools under these programmes, the state aims to close the learning gap, reduce dropout rates, and equip students with 21st-century skills.
Empowering Students for a Better Tomorrow
The school’s naming after Shaheed Sardar Bhagwan Singh also adds an emotional and historical significance to the project, honoring local heroes while investing in the future generation. Local residents and educators have welcomed the move, calling it a long-overdue transformation in Longowal’s education scene.
Minister Aman Arora noted that this is not an isolated case—hundreds of schools are being upgraded across Punjab as part of the government’s comprehensive plan to modernize education. “We are building schools that don’t just teach from books, but prepare students for life,” he said.
A New Chapter in Punjab’s Learning Journey
This project is one among several recent infrastructure developments initiated by the Mann government aimed at creating a strong, inclusive, and forward-looking education system. The vision is clear—to position Punjab as a national leader in public education, ensuring every child gets access to quality learning, regardless of their socio-economic background.
Officials have also confirmed that more smart school projects will be rolled out in the coming months, alongside increased investment in teacher training, renewable energy in schools, and digital resource hubs.
With this inauguration, Punjab moves a step closer to a smarter, more equitable, and empowered future for its youth.
