Punjab, July 30:
In a proactive step to address potential flood situations, the Punjab Government, led by Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal, has launched 1,220 projects worth ₹276 crore across the state.

Speaking to the media, Goyal said these projects are part of a larger effort to improve the state’s flood-control infrastructure. The initiative follows the Punjab Famine Code of 1906, revised in 1930, which outlines disaster relief measures that include financial aid and emergency loans for affected communities.

This action comes at a crucial time, as Punjab has experienced a 124% increase in rainfall this month compared to last year. Neighboring Pakistan has also reported 82% more rainfall, raising concerns about flood risks in the region.

The 2022 floods caused significant loss of life and property across the area, prompting the government to adopt stronger preventive measures this year. Goyal stressed that the government is dedicated to ensuring the timely execution and completion of all flood management projects.

He assured that there will be no shortage of funds for these essential projects and warned that any negligence from officials will not be accepted.
