Helpline 1076 Now Active for Home-Based Access to Sewa Kendra Services

In a bold move towards transforming public service delivery, the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has launched the ‘Sarkar Tuhade Dwar’ (Government at Your Doorstep) scheme. Citizens across the state can now access 43 essential services, typically provided at Sewa Kendras, without leaving their homes — by simply calling the helpline number 1076.

This doorstep delivery initiative is being hailed as a game-changer for residents, particularly the elderly, women, differently abled individuals, and those living in rural or remote areas. The services will include applying for documents like birth and death certificates, income and caste certificates, old age pension applications, and more.

Inspired by Delhi Model, Tailored for Punjab’s Needs

The scheme draws inspiration from the 2018 Delhi Government model, where doorstep delivery of services saw a significant increase in citizen satisfaction. However, Punjab’s version has been carefully tailored to meet the unique administrative and demographic challenges of the state.

Speaking at the launch, CM Bhagwant Mann said, “This government belongs to the people. They shouldn’t be standing in lines outside government offices — the government should come to them.” The move is part of a larger drive to make governance more transparent, accountable, and efficient.

Once a citizen calls 1076, a representative from the Sewa Kendra will schedule a home visit. Equipped with tablets and biometric devices, these representatives will process requests at the doorstep — just like in an office setting.

Over 4,000 Jobs and Boost to Digital Governance

Apart from delivering convenience, the scheme is expected to create over 4,000 jobs, including roles for call center operators, field agents, and technical staff. This aligns with the Punjab Government’s employment generation promise and offers a livelihood boost to thousands of young people.

The scheme also marks a notable step in the state’s e-governance roadmap, strengthening digital infrastructure and reducing the burden on physical offices. Officials say the new system will help eliminate middlemen, cut down on corruption, and speed up the delivery of critical documents and services.

Aligned with Global Trends in Public Service Reform

The launch of ‘Sarkar Tuhade Dwar’ reflects Punjab’s efforts to align with global best practices in public service delivery, where governments are increasingly embracing citizen-centric digital models. Studies have shown that doorstep service models significantly enhance public trust, transparency, and administrative efficiency.

With this initiative, Punjab positions itself alongside progressive regions adopting technology and innovation to simplify governance. Experts view this as a pivotal move that could influence other Indian states to rethink traditional bureaucratic systems.

As Punjab begins statewide rollout, citizens are encouraged to make full use of the 1076 helpline and embrace this new era of governance—where the government knocks on your door
