Madhya Pradesh : The Shri Mahakal Van Mela 2026 began in Ujjain, providing a vibrant platform to celebrate Madhya Pradesh’s forest wealth and tribal heritage. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized that forests are the pride of the Earth, a national treasure, and a vital heritage, urging citizens to conserve and promote them. The fair showcases the state’s rich botanical and biological diversity while allowing tribal communities to sell forest produce, Ayurvedic herbs, and traditional handicrafts.

The CM noted that the Mela will establish its own distinct identity, with herbs and non-timber forest products displayed for Ayurvedic and natural healing treatments. He also mentioned that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance, the Union Budget 2026 proposes three new All India Institutes of Ayurved, and efforts are on to establish one in Ujjain, the karmabhoomi of Lord Dhanvantari.

Van Mela Offers Natural Colours, Tribal Handicrafts, and Ayurvedic Consultations

The Van Mela, held at Dussehra Maidan, will run until 16 February. Citizens can access natural colours, gulal, and traditional forest-based products, while Ayurvedic doctors and Nadi Vaidyas will provide consultations. The fair also features wooden and bamboo crafts, reflecting traditional artistry. Dr. Yadav encouraged residents to support tribal products and forest wealth, noting that the government is providing a market platform for local artisans and producers.

Dr. Yadav highlighted the state’s efforts to expand medical and Ayurvedic education, citing the establishment of eight new Ayurvedic colleges last year, with more planned. During the event, he launched Vindhya Herbal’s natural products, Mahakal Smriti Gift Kits, and Mahakal Van Prasadam, and honored Forest Guard Shri Jagdish Prasad Ahirwar for his expertise in forest-based healing, recognized by PM Modi in ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

He said that Van Melas across Madhya Pradesh, including Bhopal and Ujjain, aim to ensure prosperity in tribal and forest regions, promote Ayurvedic products, raise environmental awareness, and encourage self-reliance. Special initiatives like Mahakal Van Prasadam involve planting saplings in biodegradable wooden pots that naturally decompose, allowing plants to grow.

Additional Chief Secretary Shri Ashok Barnwal added that such fairs benefit tribal collectors and offer urban citizens access to natural products. The Ujjain Van Mela hosts 250 stalls from across the state, along with medical and traditional healing consultations.
