Panchkula PMDA approves Rs 32.5 crore Ghaggar River bridge and Rs 95.42 crore Jal Dhara beautification for traffic relief and recreation.
The Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority ( PMDA ) plans to launch two significant projects as a “New Year Gift” to the city’s citizens. These projects include the construction of a bridge over the Ghaggar River near the golf club on the Sector-3/21 road (estimated cost of Rs 32.50 crore) and the beautification of two Jal Dharas that pass through Panchkula City (estimated cost of Rs 95.42 crore). These are the Singh Nallah Chow from Sector-1 to Industrial Area up to Punjab border (length of 5.30 km) and the Jal Dhara from Mata Mansa Devi Mandir to Rajeev-Indra colony up to Punjab border (length: 5.60 km).
According to a PMDA representative, the bids for these two projects were accepted at the “High-Powered Purchase Committee” meeting, which was chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on December 27, 2025. On the long-standing request of the people of Panchkula and the numerous Panchkula City Resident Welfare Associations, these projects have been approved. In order to give the city’s citizens better facilities, these projects have been approved with the direct involvement of Sh. K.M. Pandurang, CEO of PMDA, in light of the urgent necessity.
The first project involves building a bridge across the Ghaggar River next to the Sector-3/21 road’s Golf Club. The bridge is expected to cost Rs. 32.50 crore. With room for three lanes, the bridge will be 333.90 meters long overall and 14.0 meters wide. The current two-lane bridge over the Ghaggar is currently insufficient to manage the volume of traffic coming in and going out. Residents of Panchkula Extension Sectors 23 to 28 are inconvenienced by frequent and protracted traffic bottlenecks as a result of the insufficient breadth. One-way traffic will be allowed on both bridges following the building of the new bridge, permanently resolving the area’s traffic congestion issue. The bridge’s construction will be finished in twenty-four months.

The second project, which is expected to cost Rs. 95.42 crore, involves beautifying two Jal Dhara that pass through Panchkula City. The two naturally occurring rainy “nallahs” that were previously described travel through crowded parts of Panchkula City and are currently in poor shape. Uneven surface levels cause spare and untreated water from nearby areas to remain stagnant in a number of places, giving rise to an unpleasant odor and mosquito breeding grounds that could be extremely dangerous. Poisonous insects and dishonest elements find refuge in the unwanted flora that grows along the streams, giving them an unsightly aspect. These nallahs have also been used as landfills by nearby residents.
The representative stated that various provisions have been included in the Detailed Project Report to address these challenges. The construction will include RCC retaining walls that are 0.45 meters above ground level and a 1.5-meter-wide precast center canal. On both sides of the nallahs, GI fencing that is two meters high will be installed to control the water’s normal flow and stop trash from being dumped. Additionally, plans have been developed for the installation of bike and walking tracks, new steel bridges for crossing, street lighting, and a plantation between the retaining walls and the tracks. Facilities such as a café, ten badminton courts, six yoga courts, two volleyball courts, two half basketball courts, one skating rink, and two kid-friendly play areas will be built on the adjacent land along the nallahs.
The nallahs’ beautifying project will be finished within eighteen months of the project’s assignment date. Following completion, the residents will have access to both sides of the nallahs for leisure activities and morning and evening walks. To improve the general usefulness and livability of the surrounding regions, provisions for food courts and kid-friendly play areas have also been added.
