Haryana Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana emphasizes water conservation, organic farming, and effective scheme implementation for farmers.

Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Sh. Shyam Singh Rana stated that the state government is fully committed to protecting farmers’ interests and that there will be no shortage of funds for any welfare scheme, as long as the available budget is used properly, transparently, and effectively. He highlighted that the advantages of government programs must reach actual farmers.

Sh. Shyam Singh Rana chaired the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department’s pre-budget consultation meeting in Chandigarh today. Senior department officers attended the meeting and gave detailed presentations on the use of the previous year’s budget under various agricultural schemes run by the Central and State Governments, the current financial situation, and projected expenditure for the coming year.

During the meeting, Sh. Rana assessed the progress of the “Mera Pani Meri Virasat” plan and stated that water conservation is a state priority. He stated that promoting alternatives to water-intensive crops such as rice is critical, and urged staff to raise farmer understanding about crops that produce more with less water.

He also emphasized the scientific and environmentally responsible management of paddy straw and other crop leftovers. He stated that in order to properly address the issue of stubble burning, farmers need be given timely access to machinery, technical support, and incentive amounts to prevent environmental contamination.

The Agriculture Minister, while reviewing the Soil Health Card Scheme, stated that soil testing should not be a mere formality; rather, it should provide farmers with scientific guidance—from sowing to harvesting—on fertilizer use, crop selection, and productivity-boosting strategies. He urged officers to communicate with farmers on a regular basis to ensure that the suggestions in Soil Health Cards are followed.

Sh. Shyam Singh Rana emphasized the importance of making farms self-sufficient in manure and water, adding that sustainable agriculture is built on a balanced utilization of natural resources. He also directed officials to encourage farmers to adopt organic agricultural practices in order to lower cultivation expenses, maintain soil fertility, and provide customers with chemical-free and nutritious food grains.

He stated that the Haryana government’s top aim is to economically empower farmers, raise their income, and turn agriculture into a viable enterprise. Departmental officers should coordinate efforts to ensure that plans are effectively implemented at the grassroots level.

Sh. Rajnarayan Kaushik, Director General of the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, and Sh. Mukesh Kumar Ahuja, Chief Administrator of the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board, were among the prominent executives in attendance.
