Hoshiarpur, July 18 – In a significant step toward enhancing infrastructure and improving connectivity in rural Punjab, Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a new road project connecting Hoshiarpur to Mehgrowal. The 26.50-kilometre road will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹8 crore 40 lakh under the state government’s commitment to inclusive and balanced development.

The foundation-laying ceremony witnessed the presence of local officials, panchayat members, and enthusiastic residents who welcomed the move as a long-awaited and much-needed development for the region.

A Big Boost to Local Connectivity and Rural Development

Speaking at the event, Dr. Ravjot Singh said the road project reflects the Punjab government’s focus on strengthening rural infrastructure, ensuring that remote and underserved villages are well-connected to urban and semi-urban centres.

“This road will not only reduce travel time between Hoshiarpur and Mehgrowal but also improve access to schools, hospitals, markets, and government services for people living in nearby villages,” the minister stated. “Infrastructure is the foundation of development. A well-connected region creates better opportunities for our youth, farmers, and small businesses.”

He also mentioned that such infrastructure projects are being rolled out across Punjab to bridge the urban-rural gap and bring tangible improvements to people’s daily lives.

Quality Construction and Timely Completion Promised

The 26.5 km stretch will be developed using modern road construction technology, with a focus on durability, road safety, and drainage facilities. Officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) assured that the project would be completed in a time-bound manner, with regular monitoring to ensure adherence to quality standards.

The road is expected to benefit not just the residents of Mehgrowal and Hoshiarpur, but also nearby villages such as Chabbewal, Panchhat, and several other rural settlements that depend on this route for daily commuting, trade, and transport.

Public Response and Future Outlook

Residents expressed gratitude to the government for taking concrete steps to address long-standing infrastructure gaps in the area. Local sarpanches and community leaders called the project a “game-changer” for the region’s development, especially in improving access for students, farmers, and workers.

Dr. Ravjot Singh concluded his address by reiterating the government’s unwavering commitment to the holistic development of every district, and assured that more such road, health, and education projects are in the pipeline for Hoshiarpur and other regions of Punjab.
