AAP exposes rampant illegal sand mining in Burari, Delhi; authorities accused of negligence and possible collusion.
Delhi : Illegal sand mining has become rampant in Burari, with hundreds of trucks reportedly leaving the area every day, raising serious concerns over government negligence and potential collusion.
Local authorities have come under fire as mining mafias continue operations unabated for months, despite repeated complaints from political leaders. Sanjeev AAP, the AAP MLA representing Burari, stated that he has lodged multiple complaints regarding the ongoing illegal mining, but no significant action has been taken by the administration so far.
The issue was brought into sharper focus when AAP Delhi Convener, Saurabh MLA, along with other party colleagues, visited the site to expose the scale of the illegal activity. Their visit highlighted the sheer volume of sand being removed daily and the apparent inaction by law enforcement and government officials, including the SDM and local police.
“This is not just illegal; it is a direct robbery of government resources,” said an AAP spokesperson. “Despite multiple complaints, there has been no intervention. Citizens of Delhi deserve transparency and strict enforcement against such unlawful activities.”

Illegal sand mining has been a recurring issue in Delhi and surrounding regions, often resulting in environmental damage, disruption of local ecosystems, and the exploitation of natural resources. Experts say that unchecked mining can also lead to soil erosion, water table depletion, and the destruction of local habitats.
Residents of Burari have reportedly raised concerns about the constant movement of heavy trucks, noise pollution, and dust, which have affected their daily lives. Yet, despite these complaints, the illegal operations appear to continue without any deterrence.
The Delhi government has not yet responded officially to the latest revelations. Activists and local representatives are urging authorities to take immediate action, investigate the alleged collusion, and hold those responsible accountable.
The spotlight is now on the Delhi administration to act decisively and curb the illegal sand mining that has become a growing environmental and civic concern in Burari.
