New Delhi, June 2, 2025 — As COVID-19 cases witness a gradual rise in the capital, Delhi reported its fourth COVID-related death on Monday, a 22-year-old woman with serious pre-existing respiratory illnesses. The city recorded 47 new infections, pushing the total active COVID-19 cases to 483, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The deceased reportedly had a history of pulmonary Koch’s disease (tuberculosis) and post-TB lung complications, which significantly weakened her immune response. She also suffered from bilateral lower respiratory tract infection at the time of her COVID diagnosis, making her especially vulnerable.
The capital had registered 61 cases on Sunday, showing a slight drop on Monday. However, the trend of consistent daily infections has prompted renewed concern among health officials.
Delhi Government Issues Fresh COVID-19 Advisory to Hospitals
In response to the uptick in cases, the Delhi government reissued its COVID-19 preparedness advisory on May 26, instructing all healthcare institutions to ensure they are equipped to handle a potential surge.
Chief Minister CM Gupta urged calm while assuring the public of the administration’s vigilance.
“Guidelines have been issued to all hospitals, and the government is closely monitoring the situation. There is no need to panic,” he stated.

All hospitals must maintain adequate availability of beds, medical oxygen, essential drugs, and vaccines. Regular stock checks and replenishment are mandatory. - Medical Equipment Maintenance:
Ventilators, BiPAP machines, oxygen concentrators, and PSA oxygen plants must be inspected regularly. Any malfunctioning units should be repaired or replaced immediately. - Updated COVID Protocols:
Hospitals should revisit their triage procedures, isolation protocols, and ICU readiness to ensure they are up to date and aligned with central guidelines. - Genome Sequencing:
All positive samples must be sent for genome sequencing to Lok Nayak Hospital. This move is crucial for the early identification of emerging COVID variants.
Symptoms and Public Health Warning
Health experts report that the current COVID-19 wave is exhibiting mild to moderate symptoms, similar to earlier variants. Commonly observed symptoms include:

Doctors are advising people to remain cautious, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions.
Regional Concerns: Cases Detected in Gurugram
The rise in cases is not limited to Delhi. Neighboring Gurugram also reported four new COVID-19 cases recently, raising concern about regional spread.
While the numbers remain manageable, officials warn that community complacency could lead to larger outbreaks.
COVID-19 Situation Across India
Nationally, India reported 3,961 active COVID-19 cases as of 8 AM on June 2, 2025. Since the beginning of the year, the country has recorded 32 COVID-related deaths, with four of them reported just in the last week.
Although the majority of current infections are non-severe, experts stress the importance of testing, vaccination boosters, and genome surveillance to prevent escalation.
