Sanjay Singh urged an urgent Rajya Sabha debate on Delhi’s health emergency and demolition crisis as Parliament marked 150 years of Vande Mataram in the Winter Session.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament Sanjay Singh on Monday tabled a motion in the Rajya Sabha under Rule 267, requesting the suspension of the House’s scheduled business to facilitate a discussion.
Singh called for an immediate discussion regarding what he characterized as a ‘public health emergency’ in Delhi, the escalating crime rates, and the humanitarian crisis resulting from bulldozer demolitions.
The 6th Session of the 18th Lok Sabha and the 269th Session of the Rajya Sabha commenced on December 1 (Monday), inaugurating the Winter Session of Parliament. The session will officially end on December 19.
Today, the lower house of Parliament, the Lok Sabha, will convene a special session to commemorate 150 years of Vande Mataram, during which several significant yet lesser-known historical aspects of the emblematic national song are anticipated to be emphasized.
According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will commence the debate at 12 noon, signifying the official start of the proceedings. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is also slated to deliver a speech at the conclusion of the discussion.

The BJP-led NDA government has been allocated three hours for its participation in the Lok Sabha debate, while a total of ten hours has been designated for the entire discussion, which will also be held in the upper chamber, the Rajya Sabha, on Tuesday, December 9.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is anticipated to initiate the discussion in the Upper House.
These discussions form a component of the dedicated parliamentary initiative to honor the legacy and mark 150 years of Vande Mataram.
Meanwhile, eight Congress leaders will also address the Lok Sabha, including Deputy Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Gaurav Gogoi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Deepender Hooda, Bimol Akoijam, Praniti Shinde, Prashant Padole, Chamala Reddy, and Jyotsna Mahant.
The 150th anniversary of India’s national song, Vande Mataram, which means “Mother, I Bow to Thee,” was commemorated on November 7 of this year.
Composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, ‘Vande Mataram’ was initially published in the literary journal Bangadarshan on November 7, 1875.
Subsequently, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee integrated the hymn into his renowned novel \u2018Anandamath\u2019, which was published in 1882.
It was composed into music by Rabindranath Tagore. It has become a fundamental component of the nation’s civilizational, political, and cultural awareness.
