Pawan Singh meets Upendra Kushwaha as NDA aims to strengthen social coalition ahead of Bihar Assembly elections to ensure a united front.

 Pawan Singh, a Bhojpuri singer and actor, alluded to a reconciliation with the National Democratic Alliance, which is run by the Bharatiya Janata Party, on Tuesday in advance of the Bihar Assembly elections. In an indication of his return to the NDA, the actor-turned-politician met with Rashtriya Lok Morcha president Upendra Kushwaha and Vinod Tawde, the general secretary of the BJP and the party’s organizational in-charge in Bihar. The encounter took place at Kushwaha’s New Delhi home.

When the Bhojpuri actor approached Kushwaha at his home, he was joined by Tawde and party secretary Rituraj Sinha.

Politically speaking, the development is quite dramatic because Pawan Singh played a key role in Kushwaha’s loss in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In the Karakat seat, the Singer ran as an Independent, severely hurting Kushwaha’s chances of winning the election.

What’s the purpose of the meeting?

By appeasing Kushwaha, a Rajya Sabha member, the meeting is perceived as an effort to garner more votes. The singer might run in the next assembly elections, it also suggests.

Following that, Tawde informed reporters that Singh is a member of the BJP and will actively support the NDA in the next elections. He has been blessed by Kushwaha, Tawde stated.

In 2024, what happened?

Prior to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP initially declared that the well-known Bhojpuri singer would represent it from Asansol in West Bengal. However, the saffron party later changed its mind and pushed him to rescind after claims that his songs and music video showed Bengali women in an offensive way.

As an independent, Singh, a Rajput, ran from Karakat after the party declined to field him from Bihar. A group of upper castes, particularly Rajputs, supported him, which infuriated the local Kushwahas and cost the BJP-led NDA a few seats. In the seat that the CPI (ML) won, Kushwaha himself finished third.
