The Chief Minister urged citizens to remember the lessons of Karbala, promoting ideals of brotherhood, peace, and harmony in today’s world. His appeal comes as communities across India observe the Islamic new year and commemorate the tragic yet inspirational events of 10th Muharram, which marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussain.
Tribute to the Martyrs of Karbala
“On the occasion of Muharram, I pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala and the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain. The sacrifice given by Hazrat Imam Hussain and his 72 companions in the field of Karbala for truth and justice against injustice, oppression, and arrogance is immortal,” Nitish Kumar wrote.
Muharram is observed as a day of mourning by Muslims around the world, especially by the Shia community. It commemorates the Battle of Karbala, where Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, and his followers stood firm against tyranny and sacrificed their lives in 680 AD.
A Message of Peace and Brotherhood
Nitish Kumar’s message carried a strong appeal for social harmony, urging the people of Bihar and the broader Indian public to honor Imam Hussain’s legacy by embracing mutual understanding and unity.
“I appeal to the people of the state to remember the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain, adopt his ideals, and observe this occasion with mutual harmony and brotherhood,” he added.
