Patna Airport Expansion: A Leap Towards Modern Air Travel
During his inspection of the Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport (JPNIA) in Patna, CM Nitish Kumar was briefed on the progress of the ongoing expansion work. As part of the upgrade, the airport will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, designed to handle the growing number of passengers and provide a more seamless experience for travelers.
11 aero bridges are being constructed at the airport to improve the boarding process and accommodate the increasing number of domestic and international flights. The expansion will also focus on enhancing passenger amenities, making the airport a modern hub for air traffic in the region.
The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress but stressed the need for expedited work to ensure that all developments are completed by June 2025, as scheduled. “The facilities at Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport must match global standards to cater to the rising number of travelers. We are committed to providing modern infrastructure for our citizens and visitors,” said Nitish Kumar during the inspection.
Bihta International Airport: A Game Changer for Connectivity
In addition to the Patna airport expansion, the Bihta International Airport project was also a focal point of today’s inspection. Situated about 35 kilometers from Patna, this new international airport is designed to ease the burden on the Patna airport and significantly boost air travel connectivity for Bihar.
This upcoming airport will feature 10 aero bridges, ensuring smoother passenger flow and better operational efficiency. Modern amenities will be incorporated throughout the facility, including advanced baggage handling systems, VIP lounges, and duty-free shopping areas. The airport will also accommodate larger aircraft, further enhancing its capacity to handle increased air traffic.
Bihar’s second international airport is expected to reduce congestion at Patna’s main airport while offering a more convenient travel option for passengers in the southern parts of the state. Khagaul-Bihta Elevated Road: Improving Access to the Bihta Airport

This elevated road will shorten the travel time between Patna and Bihta, enabling passengers to reach the airport more efficiently and reducing congestion on the roadways.
