Skipper Hope Shines as West Indies seal historic ODI series vs Pakistan
West-Indies finally broke their 34 year long wait. With a thumping 202 run win at Brain Lara Cricket Academy, they clinched their first ODI series victory against Pakistan since 1991. This was also their largest win vs Pakistan in One Day Cricket.
Batting first in the series-decider. West-Indies post a commanding total, thanks to Captain Shai Hope’s classy unbeaten Century. Hope anchored the innings from start to end, keeping the scoreboard ticking while punishing loose deliveries. His calm and calculated approach allowed other batters to play freely, setting up a massive target against Pakistan.
In terms of bowling, Jayden Seales stole the show. The young pacer ran through the Pakistan batting order with a jaw-dropping 6 for 18, one of the best bowling figures by a West Indian. Pakistan were never in control during the chase and were bundled out for just 92 runs, thus awarding the hosts a convincing and historic win.
This win was even sweeter, coming as it did after Pakistan had gained the upper hand by winning the first ODI. The second match saw a strong comeback from the West Indians, who chased the rain-affected target with five wickets to spare. In the decider, they proved dominant in every department-batting, bowling, and fielding-to write a new chapter in Caribbean cricket history.
