With the T20 World Cup approaching, Suryakumar Yadav ’s inconsistent form continues, alongside Shubman Gill’s struggles in the ongoing T20I series.
India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav once again did not make a significant contribution in the third T20I against South Africa, extending a challenging run in 2025.
Suryakumar was dismissed for 12 runs, succumbing to Lungi Ngidi, contributing to a series of low scores this year. The current season has been disappointing for the Indian captain, who has yet to score a half-century in T20 Internationals in 2025 and has been dismissed for a blank on three occasions.
Suryakumar Yadav’s Performance in T20I Matches During 2025
Suryakumar’s greatest score this year continues to be an unbeaten 47 against Pakistan in Dubai. Apart from that innings, he has encountered difficulty in surpassing the 40-run threshold. He faced two instances of failures against England and one against Pakistan.

In the South Africa series, his performances have been modest—12 in the first match, 5 in the second, and another 12 in the third—prompting concerns regarding his consistency.
Shubman Gill Encounters Difficulties
Vice-captain Shubman Gill has also experienced a period of poor form in T20Is this year. In 15 matches, Gill has accumulated 291 runs, without recording a fifty, and has been dismissed for a wicket on one occasion.
In the match against South Africa, his difficulties were apparent as he was dismissed in the opening over of both the first and second T20Is, scoring 4 runs in the initial game and recording a blank in the subsequent encounter. In the third match, he demonstrated some resilience but scored a sluggish 28 runs off 28 deliveries.
Concerns Prior to the T20 World Cup
With the T20 World Cup scheduled for February-March next year, the declining form of both the captain and vice-captain remains an increasing concern.
India’s forthcoming series against New Zealand in January will serve as the team’s final T20 engagement prior to the World Cup, presenting a vital opportunity for both Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill to regain their form.
