Chennai: Shreyas Iyer fined IPL 2026 has become a major talking point after the Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain was penalised for a second consecutive match due to a slow over-rate violation. The incident occurred during PBKS’s victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.
Despite leading his team to an impressive win, Shreyas Iyer fined IPL 2026 highlights the Indian Premier League’s strict stance on maintaining over-rates. This was PBKS’s second offence of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct, resulting in stricter penalties.
IPL Takes Strict Action on Repeat Offence
In an official statement, the IPL confirmed that Shreyas Iyer fined IPL 2026 resulted in a fine of ₹24 lakh for the captain. Additionally, the rest of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, were fined either ₹6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fees, whichever is lesser.
The repeated breach under Article 2.22, which deals with minimum over-rate offences, has put PBKS under scrutiny early in the season. Authorities have made it clear that continued violations could lead to even harsher consequences.

PBKS chased down the challenging target by reaching 210 for five in 18.4 overs, sealing a five-wicket victory. The win marked their second consecutive triumph in IPL 2026, showcasing a strong start to their campaign under Iyer’s leadership.
CSK’s Strong Total Goes in Vain
Earlier, Chennai Super Kings posted a competitive total of 209 runs after being put in to bat. Young batter Ayush Mhatre impressed with a fluent 73 off 43 deliveries, forming a crucial 96-run partnership with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored 28 runs.
Late contributions from Sarfaraz Khan (32 off 12) and Shivam Dube’s unbeaten 45 added momentum to CSK’s innings. However, their efforts were not enough to stop Punjab’s batting lineup.
In the end, while PBKS celebrated a crucial win, Shreyas Iyer fined IPL 2026 remained a key highlight, underlining the league’s strict enforcement of rules even amid strong on-field performances.
