Sathiyan Gnanasekaran from India came in second place at the 2025 WTT Feeder in Istanbul on Monday.
In the men’s singles final, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran lost to Vladimir Sidorenko 9-11, 8-11, 9-11 in three straight games, ending his week in second place. Gnanasekaran, who is the best Indian men’s singles paddler in history, lost to Sidorenko in just 23 minutes. Sidorenko is a lower-ranked paddler. Gnanasekaran, who was ranked third, hadn’t lost a game until the final, where he lost in three straight sets.
He started his challenge in the second round by beating another Indian, Divyansh Srivastava, 3-0. This was after getting a bye in the first round. First, Gnansekaran beat Rares Sipos in the quarterfinals. Then, he beat Evgeny Tikhonov, an amateur, in the semifinals to get to the title match. In the women’s singles tournament, Manika Batra, the second seed, lost in the semi-finals. Sibel Altinkaya of Turkey beat her 6-11, 12-10, 7-11, 11-13. Altinkaya is notably less skilled than she is. In the semi-finals of mixed doubles, Singapore’s Pang Koen and Ser Lin Qian beat Aakash Pal and Poymantee Baisya, who were the defending national champions, 12-14, 8-11, 4-11.
